Seems like Basis would be a safer option, assuming you have a kid that can handle the rigor.
Yup. That is what I am thinking.
Basis is ranked #1 in DC but Latin is only #14. Plus, the new Latin campus is in a high-crime area, will suffer growing pains over the next couple of years, and then will likely to move EOTR. And, on top of all that, Latin is now going to prioritize at-risk in the lottery. I wouldn't be surprised to see Latin drop even further in the rankings.

Ugh BASIS is so depressing though. I have a kid who could handle it and I just don’t want to sentence them to that prison.

Stand-alone charters very seldom build from scratch, because they can't muster anywhere near the resources to do that. I see Latin 2 rehabbing and existing building somewhere in Ward 5 eventually.
New construction can be cheaper than dealing with some old lead and asbestos-riddled problem property.
Sometimes true but there really aren't that many vacant sites in DC that would accommodate a build from the ground up -- especially if you need a site near a metro or other city services. A pre-existing school or office building is much more likely. This is based on my experience with a charter that has built from the group up and has also rehabbed/expanded an existing building.

If I say Brent kids should go to the local MS and Latin should be for kids in greater need of a solid education, my neighbors aren't going to say "you are so right!" They are going to say "I pay my taxes (and deserve everything I can grub for myself, Ward 8 can wallow in its . . . those families could care about themselves if they want to I owe them nothing)."
If you take an obnoxious, virtue signalling stand that seems more geared towards insulting Brent families and your neighbors, yes, you will get pushback. If you express a carefully informed opinion on the merits about how to balance competing interests, you’ll be fine. Plus, your neighbors are not going to be weeding through public comments submitted to the charter board anyway. Thus it appears you are more interested in insulting Brent families here by using the convenient cudgel of “Ward 8 kids.”
Spare us your holier-than-thou screed, PPs above. What I mean is that Brent families played no rule in determining the site of the temporary Latin 2 campus. Moreover, they can always say that they like. Expressing carefully informed opinions is nice, but so is speaking your mind in a city and nation where speech is, um, protected.
I strongly suspect that nobody will be "weeding through public comments" related to any aspect of the roll out of Latin 2. Nobody.

Bunker Hill, Langley, and Bruce-Monroe.
Winston has already come up for RFO, if Latin were interested I think we would know by now. And it isn't really big enough for Latin.
