Read under the Banner of Heaven and just Wikipedia before you oust. Read “a good death” under Wikipedia. Just educate yourself. It’s all out there.

And make sure you don’t start with any Mormon material. “Milk before meat” is a good way not to find out that all Mormon men believe they’re on the same level as God, will get their own planets in the afterlife and if they decide not to use their wife’s secret name that they make up, she can’t get onto his planet.

Former Mormon here. I see where you're coming from, but think of how many people believe in the literal virgin birth or any number of christian beliefs. In the US we are very entrenched in Judeo Christian monotheism so it's hard to see just how weird it is, but if you take a step back, it's weird.

I'm Catholic, we believe some pretty bizarre things. I once found myself trying to explain "adoration" to someone who had very little experience with religion. "So, usually after the priest turns the piece of bread into Jesus's body, then we eat it. Unless you have wheat allergies or celiac, then you shouldn't eat it, because even though it really truly actually is a piece of Jesus's body, it will still give you anaphylaxis. . . . Why? . . . . Well that's a mystery. Anyway, sometimes no one eats it and we put it in a box, and then you can sit and look at the box, and adore it. . . . " I mean, I do it, but if you step back and try to explain it? It's weird.

But I'd totally go see a musical making fun of us. I can see why mormons like the Book of Mormon.

I really don't think many people going to see Book of Mormon really believe that this is a documentary or actual representation of Mormonism.

It is intended to have taken very liberal artistic license to present the subject as comedically as possible. This is no different than the very liberal interpretation of Catholicism in the Nunsense series by Dan Goggin (which has made it to six sequels and three spin-offs to date).

Also saw it when it was hot on Broadway- I still don’t think the songs are particularly good, but I found it entertaining enough at the time. There are so many better musicals but I did like seeing something more creative, edgy and different. It originally premiered a decade ago and I really doubt it would’ve had the same success with an initial run today. I went to the Book of Mormons when it was hot on Broadway. I didn't think it was very funny or entertaining. It was pretty lame. I didn't find it offensive, just dull.

I saw it years ago when it first opened and remember being extremely offended by the racism. My husband and I almost left but he felt like we should see it through in order to give a fair analysis. Neither of us was happy we stayed. I read that article about how it is being changed now, and am glad for it, but I still have no desire to see it again.
