How long ago was this?

I think a lot of kids could say that about a lot of schools. Probably most schools. I mean, depending on the type of kid, and the types of kids in your freshman dorm, most schools CAN feel that way.

My DD is looking at all these schools. I see them the same way, except would put Middlebury rather the BC between Colgate and Dartmouth.

Bucknell is an unremarkable school in a very remote location.

Bucknell is bad if you're a geed who's intimidated by a heavy Greek life presence.

Your neighbor's son apparently made a bad choice for him. Every year about two million students nationwide transfer colleges, and many of them justify that decision by pointing to the perceived shortcomings of the school they're attending. Bucknell is generally ranked one of the top 100 colleges and universities in the country, it accepts only about a third of its applicants, it has a very highly regarded faculty, and its graduates' salaries rank among the top 50 in the nation -- so clearly the college is providing a good education that makes its graduates employable (the consistently high rankings for Bucknell aren't some kind of vast conspiracy...). Social life at most remote rural schools (including where I went) tends to involve a fair amount of alcohol (especially freshman year) and frat parties - presumably your neighbor's son's due diligence before committing to Bucknell unearthed that, and it didn't come as a surprise (surely he didn't think he was heading to MIT or Chicago or NYU?). But I suspect in a school of 3600 students there are also many who don't drink to excess - my Bucknell alum friends certainly didn't. Notwithstanding the constant eagerness of DCUM commenters to pile on with their recycled rumors and hearsay and obscure data points -- just pick a college -- realistically there's nothing here to affirm that Bucknell is "that bad" but just that it appears to have been a "bad" fit for one student who has decided he doesn't want to stick it out till graduation as nearly 90% of matriculating Bucknell students do.

You lose all credibility adding BC in here. It’s nothing like the other 3 (which otherwise may be accurate comparison) and it’s same level admissions as Colgate anyway. Dumb.
