Relationships with people with addiction issues is honestly like having a third party involved in the relationship. Some people can handle it but most people can't. I don't think it will work long-term. Especially with children involved, the sooner you end it the better. Give him an ultimatum. Actually mean it and stick with it.

Cheat on him. Totally justified. Theres no way he is meeting your emotional or sexual needs with anything more than 1-2 hrs per day.

If its for an hour or two in the evening after kids go to bed (similar to the amount of time a normal person would spend reading or watching netflix) that seems fine to me. Just like other people posted before, if it's a casual hobby for a reasonable amount of time that doesn't impact actual adult responsibilities thats very different from being a video game addict.

Of course 14 hours a day, affecting employment and avoiding caring for the family, is absolutely ridiculous.

People need to stop judging video games as a past time. It's a perfectly fine way to unwind, just like binging Netflix or reading trashy novels.

The issue is that OP's DH is doing this 14 hours a day. Nothing should be done for 14 hours.

That hasn’t been true since I was a kid. Most video gamers are in the 30 to 45 year old range. They have the most income to spend and drive the market. Many of them just game variously through their kids by buying them the games and hardware.

45 year old men who claim video games as their main hobby are weirdos. Is this the new midlife crisis. Like these men can't deal with their kids, jobs etc so instead of drinking or cheating they shut the world out and play violent games with strangers on line? Got it. this may be the "norm" to you but its still pathetic.

How is playing video games any different/worse than binge watching Squid Game or some other Netflix show; watching sports (at least a guaranteed 3 hr commitment); keeping up with the Kardashians or Real Housewives; reading romance novels; weekly poker nights; knitting; coloring; listening to music; or any other hobbies people (hopefully, responsibly) participate in?
