+1 you definitely don’t need to be an A student to get in unless that A is from a questionable school district

Clemson is not an academic school. You don't need a 3.5 to get in.

Clemson? Wow, that surprises me as I was under the impression that 3.5+ gpa is needed to get in, in addition to good SAT scores.
Did you kid have a "hook?"

I think my kid would like Clemson but I haven't even suggested it to him as his GPA is low and his SAT is 1350, with "meh" ECs

I too find this hard to believe. My DD's counselor told her it is a reach with 3.3. She has all the extra curriculars, minority status, etc. and was told 3.5 MINIMUM and that doesn't guarantee you a spot. She will still apply and see what happens but it is unlikely.

that was her unweighted gpa

interesting. Top grades and ECs, I assume?

Yes to both - and a strong course load. ECs at the national level.

What does this even mean?

Please post GPAs if you didn’t submit test scores. That info is helpful. Thanks!

Just to echo the Go Gators post above - congrats btw!- there’s never enough talk on these boards about transfer pathways to top schools. I imagine that’s because 90% of parents are concerned with “getting in” and all the process and gossip that entails …for them.
But if your goal is to help your loved one complete their degree at a top school and in doing so achieve some academic goals, never eliminate transfer pathways. At any age. There are options people!
