The school can make all the rules they want, but they have no control over the public roadway.
The best a school can do is have a crossing guard, but they are only allowed to stop traffic for peds, not control or direct traffic.
This. Schools don’t set traffic rules. They need to lobby VDOT to put up a sign.
The parents that are turning left into kiss and ride are totally fine. Chill OP.

And people are doing it every day, on purpose? Being observed by people they know? Are they sociopaths who just don't care what anyone else thinks of them?
Our middle school has designated turn in and turn out spots for kiss and ride so I'm a little baffled by everyone saying the school doesn't have the authority to tell them where they can turn in. If they didn't, it would be a crazy traffic jam free for all.
If you would be mortified by this, then you really, really, really need to work on getting a life.
really? you just break the rules every day in front of your kids school community and you don't care that anyone thinks you are an entitled selfish a-hole?

+1
Truly mind boggled at all the jerks on here that do not care they are line jumping the families at their school. If someone regularly did this no way would I be keen for our kids to be friends since clearly they are an a—hat.

Of course those homeowners might not be thrilled about it, but there is space for it. My kids go to Shrevewood and they put in a turning lane last year (instead of just a parking lane) and that has been a big improvement.
A turning lane isn’t enough. That would help once the line of cars is moving. In the afternoon, right now cars are backed up on Kirby waiting, before dismissal. So the lane is blocked and no one can get by. It isn’t inching or moving. Just sitting. So non Kirby pick up people get stuck in it with no where to go bc the line isn’t moving or inching.
They should not allow people to line up more than 5 minutes before dismissal.
