This place will have you believing that your B student will only be accepted at a community college or suggest a technical trade school instead. They'll tell you that your kid has pretty much no chance of attending any VA school as well.
My solid B kid is at William & Mary in his second year, and is thriving. He was also accepted at Chapman University, Michigan State, Elon, and Auburn.
The only school he applied to and didn't get accepted by was Florida State. He was a bit bummed at first, but he knew that was his reach school. He's actually glad he didn't get accepted now because he's very dismayed with how FL has handled the pandemic. He has two good friends in FL universities and both have had covid since returning to campus this year.

This is MY DD!! She has taken one AP course per year and at a private school. We are curious how this will play out. So nervous. Did you DS take the SAT or ACT? My DD took one and did a little below average (the ADHD is horrible when it comes to standardized testing). We won't be submitting them to any school.
We are focusing on test optional schools only. He is horrible at standardized tests.

This is wonderful to hear. My DC is applying to all of the above where your DC got accepted, except Chapman (will now have to look that up). College Counselor said W&M falls between Target and Reach. Ofcourse that is her favorite school. She is just a B student but making big improvements. Lots of extracurriculars, etc. I don't know if I should recommend ED for W&M or just wait. Naviance is showing about 50/50 with her stats. We are out of state (DC).
I have to ask. Is your B student a POC? because I cannot imagine how a white kid with a B average can possibly get into any of the "public Ivies" unless he's a minority or an athletic genius.
I'm the PP who's DD is currently applying and YES AA and not into sports. Michigan State and Elon take many B students regardless of race!!

My DD with an UNweighted GPA of 3.7 (weighted 4.2) got many generous scholarships from second tier LAC’s (I.e. schools ranked 30-90, offering basically half price attendance).
Unweighted 3.7 = an A- student. Totally different.
+1
mine's UW 2.7/W 4.2. so yeah, not relevant. but thx for answering.
