We have somewhat settled on Nathaniel but it doesnt feel quite right and I dont love it with our last name which also starts with N. Im liking Lawrence because it feels dignified but warm and also underused. But he would mainly go by Wren, which I know is a girls name also. But it doesnt bother me that it is gender neutral.
Sister is Caroline.
LOL! If you name him Lawrence, it won't be up to you what his nickname is. It will be up to the kids at school--thankfully, in this case, since Wren is not a gender-neutral name, it is a girl's name.
They will call him Larry. If you don't like the name Larry, don't use this name. Seriously.
That's my feeling. Name him Lawrence if you like the names Lawrence and Larry. Or, if you want him to go by Wren, then name him Wren.

Wren definitely makes me think "girl," but Ren makes me think "boy." Silly, maybe. I don't know ... I don't hate this name, but I don't love it either.
Agree Ren for a boy

Lawrence nn Ren is very cool IMHO.
David Foster and Katharine McPhee named their kid Rennie and I keep thinking Ren would have been way better.
dp They did name him Ren. Rennie is the nn!
no, the other way around! https://people.com/parents/katharine-mcphee-david-foster-reveals-newborn-baby-son-name/
