Yes. I now realize that racism is even more entrenched than I previously thought. Reading through this has been informative.

Agree 100%.

It seems weird that this story would be the tipping point for you. But good for you anyways.
Serious question: Are you now seeing that racism is ore entrenched than you previously thought because the perpetrator is a professional white woman from NYC instead of an underemployed white man? or a police officer?

DP - I think it's the people on this thread who insist that there must be more to the story, that she was threatened, that don't know what he said to her before the video, that the sister was wrong to post the video, etc. that are displaying the surprising and persistent entrenched racism. You know, even video evidence and THE WORDS OUT OF THE WOMAN'S OWN MOUTH aren't enough for them to admit that she was wrong.

I don't care who gets nauseated by those who allow for the possibility of more to this story. There are too many people ready to judge others based on snippets of videos snapped on a cell phone. And why not do it - the lemmings are always ready to spring into action to ruin someone's life in the name of racial justice. At least she's a grown up and not a kid, but still.

Your white privilege is showing, hon.

Why would anyone be mad. There are hundreds of tv channels and media outlets...everyone has a show now. BTW, what is OAN?

She doesn't really have a TV face though does she? I predict a long period of navel gazing and unemployment for this lass.

It seems to be a continuing epidemic of blaming "two armed black men" for all sorts of crimes...

Yes, I now think that Amy should be the correct label for people who think they aren't racist but really are, rather than Karen.

I’m not surprised at all. This board is FULL of Amy Coopers who are constantly saying racist things that they don’t think are racist and who believe they aren’t racist because they vote democrat. There are a lot of us who call out the racism and microaggressions that get used here all the time and usually we are called SJW’s or dramatic or told we are looking at it in the worst light/taking it the wrong way. Well, this is what happens when you have that attitude and don’t call it when you see it... the Amys come to think it’s fine and take their bigotry out in public like this.

He was head of the Harvard ornithological society, and an editor for Marvel comics. You really think this is a threatening guy who's sneakily threatening hysterical white women whenever he gets the chance?!

I get what you’re doing saying these things about him because they are good qualities and complimentary, but he doesn’t need to be Harvard educated or president of Audubon or whatever to not have this happen to him. It’s actually dangerous because it implies that “model” Black men should expect better treatment than others. A Black man not educated at Harvard or not an ornithologist also would not deserve this. Black lives matter no matter what.

No. The racists are still racists and the rest of us are glad she was fired.

This reminds me of the Rodney King video where he is getting the $hit beaten out of him by a bunch of cops. But we’re supposed to believe “there is another side to the story”. Gimme a break.

Yes. I started out thinking that we needed to wait to hear from her about what happened. When I read her apology, then I was ready to throw the book at the racist. She admitted responsibility and apologized with no caveats and no mitigating excuses. Sorry, but she's a big girl and she can take the punishment for being such a reprehensible human being who enacted a hate crime. Just because the violation is a misdemeanor and she likely won't get charged for her crime, it was still a crime and still a hate crime and she is still a bigot, despite her protestations to the contrary. And I might not have called for her to lose her job, but after seeing that her employer was likely to lose customers and brokers from selling their funds, I can see that they had no choice but to terminate her for cause and without recompense. So, yes, I've changed my mind. But not in her favor.
