June isn't going back to the Waterfords. She's going to find a place to hold up for a while right in Boston while everyone looks for her further away (because why would she stay instead of run) and try to figure out a plan for getting Hannah.

I think you’re on to something there. The attack on Aunt Lydia meant Lawrence had to act quickly to get his new Handmaid out of Gilead, leading to an opportunity to rescue another Handmaid and her child.

Kinda odd, but I thought it was sweet that Lawrence called his wife “my love” as he was whisking Emily out of the house. Seems like he actually loves his crazy wife and isn’t a sheep to Gilleads ideology

What about food for Nicole! Who knows how long it may take them to get to Canada and it's not like they can just stop and pick up formula. It's just so stupid! They're desperate to get another season out of this and in the process are destroying the story.

I find Luke pretty passive and useless. I can’t imagine him infiltrating Gilead with weapons to rescue Hannah.

I don’t see any way June can go back to the Waterford house. I think she’s on the run now. The only thing that seems to make sense to me is make an immediate play for Hannah, but it’s not clear to me how she then reconnects with the underground to go north again.

I think Nick is also done at the Waterford house and also needs to go underground or get out. That may have been his plan — eden was maybe the last straw for him in leading his double life.

Seems like Waterford would also end up on the wall, after losing his handmaid (repeatedly), baby and losing control over his wife. Unless he has too much dirt on the other commanders (although maybe that’s an extra reason he’d get a bullet in the head). But it seems like too much of a shift for the show to dump all the major characters, as Serena would probably have to go with him, unless she makes some power play to turn him in and save herself (and become the new aunt Lydia?).

I agree with PPs that from my position, it seems like June would have a better chance of saving Hannah if she went to Canada and came back with Luke and supplies/weapons. But who knows? What if they moved Hannah to a new house after her escape. She’s have no way of finding her.

I was recently reading a book by a holocaust survivor whose mother hid her in a backpack and smuggled her into a concentration camp then disguised her as a short adult so she’d be placed on work detail rather than killed. It seems totally preposterous but it did save her daughter’s life. If you were that mother, in that moment, how on earth could you know what would be most likely to save your daughter? Tell her to run and hide? Beg the guards? Have her play dead? Hide her in a backpack and bring her with you? All completely terrible options. It’s really hard to say what choice you would make when you have minutes to decide, really incomplete information about the relative risks, and any decision will likely result in death.

Throughout history, a lot of women have made really awful choices trying to give their children the best shot. I can’t Monday morning quarterback those choices when I’m not in their position.

I thought Fred was trying to torture June into behaving affectionately toward him (as she has done in the past) because he knows his relationship with Serena, such as it was, is kaput since he HAD HER MUTULATED BY THE AUTHORITIES. He knows he’s a monster but he likes pretending otherwise. This is how I imagine it would be like to date Stephen Miller also omg what if Hope Hicks is Eden.

The more I think about the June thing the more mad I am because (among so many other things) not only did she waste half the work of the Marthas, she is almost certain to be interrogated and anyone can break under torture and get them all killed.

Seems clear Fred is infatuated with June, more of a sexual thing than anything else. Also, she gave him a child, which confers major status on the family. I think he tolerates her 'misbehaving' in part because of that but also naively believes he can ultimately control her, which he enjoys.

How the hell is June gonna go prancing back in there (with no baby) after escaping.

I get not wanting to leave Hannah behind but come on - she could’ve gone back for her in a couple years or whenever this sh*tshow that is Gilead inevitably ends.

Also, why June/ Nicole ? Like why were there 20 different people orchestrating their escape? JUST THEIR escape? 10 other handmaids/ Martha’s could’ve hopped in that truck.

All of those people risked their lives for NICHOLE. Not June. I have a feeling June leaving was never part of the plan.

If that were the case, the handmaids could have just handed the baby off to each other and smuggled her out, without long moments of June just staring off in the distance pondering. Rita could have taken Holly, given her to the next handmaid, and so on, and so forth. I've totally lost interest in rooting for June anymore. So many wasted opportunities...
