99% percent of schools notify before Ivy Day, so really it's the Ivies you should be complaining about.
All schools notify about a month before students have to decide on May 1.

St Andrews takes anybody from the USA who applies.

calling from 2005?
DP. Not everyone but it’s estimated to take 30-37% applying, which is a lot compared to the selectivity percentages of elite American schools
This discourse is everything that’s wrong with American college admissions. Once you decide that the quality of a school is determined by admissions rate, you then have to conclude that it’s “bad” to have a high but clear standard for admissions.
It also feels ignorant of how admissions are done at UK universities and globally, which as a general rule are much less holistic and much more minimum stats driven. They may be equally selective but they close the door to kids they aren’t going to admit prior to application, instead of after application.
Also congrats to the parent of St Andrews kid. That’s great!
The “discourse” is only a response to the person claiming St. Andrews takes everyone. That is all. Obviously you are the parent invested in getting your get into St. Andrews. Buckle up because you are going to get roughed up here. If you don’t like St. Andrews’ stats, then your kid shouldn’t go or you shouldn’t bother posting. The fact is St. Andrews loves full-pay Americans. One quarter of its student body is full pay Americans. It’s now expensive at $70k and it’s not considered elite. It takes 30% of applicants. It has 10 full-time recruiters working the private schools on the eastern seaboard who drum up interest in full-pay wealthy private school kids.

He didn’t apply to Grinnell as non full-pay, so I’m confused.
Not following the question. DC got merit beyond just the guaranteed discount amount for ED’ing. We knew what it would be ahead of time due to the sport connection.
DC had already struck from the list of options the schools at the very top of the SLAC list because they don’t give much merit and we aren’t in a position to pay $90 a year, yet don’t qualify for FA. DC’s happy but still a litttle wistful about one of the schools in that awesome but too pricey bucket.
