I went to a top private university, and I know what the development kids went through and how they felt, and it's not a path I would choose for my child.
Best of luck to all these kids, development, athletes, everyone, as they enter college at such a tumultuous time.
What is a "development kid"?

Duke has a 12 Billion Dollar endowment. Even at 5% interest that is $600 million per year in interest. On top of that, full pay families at Duke like the kid we are talking about will have a total estimated four year total cost of attendance at 372K. The fact that public funds are given to these private institutions is ridiculous. Time for Duke and these other schools to cut the fat.
You can hear from the Coach himself on the state of the recruiting landscape. https://www.insidelacrosse.com/article/podcast-how-recruiting-works-with-duke-s-john-danowski/65769
