NP. I understand no one is being forced to contribute, I just think it's gross that there is such an outpouring of sympathy and financial support for Lindsay and her husband when other mentally ill people who commit crimes are treated as if they are sub-human.

Then why, if the world sucks so bad, why bring kids into it? I don’t agree at all that life kind of sucks, my life is much better than the life my grandparents lived so I just try to put things into perspective. I am not and refuse to become a victim. Not sure how old you are but I am old enough to have witnessed and known the greatest generation and they would be absolutely appalled at our weakness. It’s a group think victim mentality we’ve all adopted. I try to teach my kids that you aren’t supposed to feel happy constantly, it’s perfectly normal to feel emotions, we need to teach coping skills. It’s okay to feel anxious and depressed after a major life change, it’s not a pathology that needs to be medicated necessarily.
Such a boomer mentality. Income inequality is up. Global warming is unavoidable. Life expectancy is decreasing. I don’t expect my kids to have a better life than I did.
Also, many of the greatest generation had unchecked PTSD after the war. Addressing and treating mental illnesses is not weakness.

Didn’t tell my parents, my siblings, my friends, or anyone else. I told all of those ppl I was on anti depressants but not that I had been suicidal. I don’t think you know as much as you think you know about others’ lives.
People who express suicidal ideation are not allowed home, generally they are sent to a crisis center and evaluated there. Then admitted to a psych floor.
For suicidal ideation? Nope. Not a chance that you get hospitalized. Not a chance. Must be actively suicidal. Ideations mean nothing. And actively suicidal means nothing. There needs to be a plan. And even that’s not enough. There needs to be a means to carry out the plan. Suicidal ideations gets nothing special.
Welp, they sent us to a crisis center for suicidal ideation. There was no concrete plan and ultimately after 24 hours they sent us home with nothing but a pamphlet of therapist phone numbers.

I’ve been on an SSRI for about 10 years. It’s made me much happier. I’ve gone off a few times to see how it is and for a pregnancy, and life is just better when I’m on it. Why not take it?

I went through this with my child, we waited for 8 hours in a crisis center before we ever saw anyone. Finally, at 2am they told us we wouldn’t see a psychiatrist until maybe 5am, so they allowed us to leave and come back in the morning. Luckily, my DC was safe with me and we returned the next day only to wait another 8 hours.
Oh and we didn’t even see a psychiatrist initially, we saw a LSW who couldn’t have cared less about my kid. Then after a bunch of questioning, after about 24 hours of sitting and waiting and eating food from the vending machine, we finally saw a psychiatrist. My child is not an adult either.

Ok you’re just wrong. People who express suicidal ideation aren’t allowed home from what? The Dr.’s office? You have no idea what you’re talking about. I was prescribed anti depressants, went to the pharmacy to pick them up, and then went home. Marie I should’ve been in a crisis center for evaluation but that is not how our healthcare system works.

And even if your friend/neighbor/family member whoever was admitted for psychiatric care, you might not know about that so even in your imaginary scenario where “people w suicidal thoughts go to crisis centers for evaluation” you still might not know about that. People don’t generally go around broadcasting that information.
