The rioting and looting were a result of the reaction to this awful death.
They are hurting innocent business owners, destroying property, and causing the taxpayers of the city undue costs.

The police station and police cars that were damaged and destroyed? They'll be repaired and replaced - at the taxpayers expense.

Rioting and looting is just stupid and short sighted. Many were simply taking advantage of a bad situation. The people there who were protesting should speak out against these criminals.

The only criminals we really need to focus on right now are the killer cops.

The focus definitely needs to go back to the injustice tbat was done by the police. The problem is that it's hard for people to support the actions of some of the rioters now that they started looting. If they are serious about getting support from these rallies, then they really need to stop breaking things and looting stores. I get that these may have insurance but a lot of people will become conflicted now because supporting the rally would seem to support these actions as well. My worldview comes from a career of studying terrorism, and yes it is strange because we like to say that these things are ineffective. However, political violence that doesn't kill civilians is incredibly effective at garnering sympathy. So you can say it isn't rational, and it might make you more comfortable to think that the world doesn't reward such behavior, but it does. Their actions are not only rational but politically astute.
