She was clearly a confidential informant for US law enforcement. This is how she was able to travel so freely, coming in & out of the country dozens of times in the last few years while Epstein was being investigated. She likely signed cooperation agreement that gave her immunity for her crimes in exchange for testifying as a first hand witness AND remaining a primary residency in the US (so law enforcement could keep tabs on her).

Bill Barr likely tore up the immunity agreement and put her under arrest. Which, of course, disincentivizes informants from ever working with the USG again to infiltrate a ring of criminals
