Yup. This is wash, rinse and repeat with MCPS. Problems are flagged to MCPS admin and leadership and they're ignored until it's too late.

MCPS needs to be held accountable.

They said they were at Lakewood Elementary they were not. They lied.

But the cameras only are used to bust kids vaping

My old district I worked at had county wide policies that banned students from wearing hats and hoods in the hallways to ensure proper camera identification. We were instructed to write referrals for students who refused to take them off and kids were being sent home until they could be trusted to comply with policy. Unfortunately MCPS does not have such a policy. I have kids in my HS that walk around in full hoods and ski masks in the hallway.

She never said she was for moving him out.

Bottom line is MCPS failed both of these kids. Their parents failed them as well. Yes they did. There is a reason her kid is not in their home school. Given he is a minor I am not putting that on here. Case search has a ton of info on both of these families.
Neither kid should have been at any mainstream school in the county.

Why does it seem that threads like this feel like the only real answer to dead kids is MORE dead kids? Would you all really be happy if an armed CEO/SRO had shot and killed the kid in response to his shooting? What are you expecting this individual to do that MCPS security could not do?

Yes there are LOTS of cameras however I would venture to guess they are not monitored in real time 24/7

They’re looking at AI to monitor those cameras and detect weapons. Those systems are unreliable and can lead to false positives, further traumatizing kids. There was a situation last year in Baltimore where such system flagged a bag of chips as a gun and the kid ended up in handcuffs at gun point.

My HS is piloting a new AI program that will scan hallway and stairwell chokepoints and determine if there is an unusual high level of activity and then make alerts based on that.

Umm so how does that work when the hallways are crammed with back to back students between classes?

I imagine the AI is sophisticated enough to program bell schedules into it. It's also likely sophisticated enough to determine a regular pattern of volume and detect variance in that volume.

BS there is zero evidence of SRO's doing that.

When has an SRO stopped a shooting?

You know what they have done, brought drugs yep, sexual relationships with students etc....

There have always been bad kids in schools for ever and a day. What has changed is access to guns, social media and parenting.

The student who was the shooter lives in the Wootton cluster, is what we were told at the parent meeting last night.
