: In a loss for Democrats, the Virginia Supreme Court ruled the congressional map voters approved last month to counter GOP gerrymanders cannot go into effect.

The decision overturns the will of voters for technical reasons and gives Republicans a leg up for the 2026 midterms.

So the MAGAs are allowed to gerrymander without public input but democrats are not allowed to, despite an entire statewide referendum.

We are in for some very dark times.

It is not in line with historical precedent, only the activism by the Klan members on SCOTUS. And it is not in line with Congress' vote to reup the law in the 80s.

Courts kept ruling that states need to draw districts by looking at race. Supreme Court finally said that is not required under the Voting Rights Act. This is in line with previous decisions that kept walking back earlier ones that were insisting on maximal racial gerrymandering.
