Why are blue states so inept?

This thread is TLDR, so I don't know if it's been mentioned yet, but I just want to throw out there that I live in MN, one of the states that doesn't require an ID.

The requirements to vote are either a valid ID, or an expired ID [/b]along with a SSN[/b]. You also must bring a utility bill or lease to show that you live in MN. So it's not like ANYONE can just roll up and vote with no verification.

Non citizens are given driver’s licenses and can bring a utility bill

Please show where non-citizens are voting. See the Heritage Foundation report and the Cato Institute reports (hardly liberal institutions) that show this to be a miniscule problem. In fact, I would ask, if there is so much illegal voting taking place, then how did the GOP win the House, senate and white House in 2024? Why was this an issue for the 2020 election when Trump was president, but not an issue in 2016 or 2024 when Trump won?

When no one checks citizenship, how would you know?

Can't prove a negative, so restrict the rights of actual americans to vote because you don't like their skin color.

It does not restrict the rights of citizens. It protects their rights.

But, this is not just about undocumented immirgrants. It prevents other types of voter fraud, as well. One person, one vote.

If you are forcing someone to pay $135 for a passport in order to vote, it is not protecting anyone's rights. And you keep citing this mythical voter fraud. The voter fraud doesn't exist. It is a right wing hoax that you have bought hook, line and sinker.

You don't need and will not be required to show a passport to vote. Stop making things up.

Individuals do not own their birth certificates. Their parents do. My home state charge $35. Then for a woman another $40 for marriage license. $75/$135 it’s a poll tax either way.

No. Your parents do not "own" your birth certificate. That is BS. And, why didn't you keep your marriage certificate rather than asking for another?

Dude it came in an envelope addressed to my father. My parents were required to use it for such administrative tasks as registering me for school. It is their property, not mine.

To your latter point, because I wasn’t born or married in a country with “show your papers” laws. I hope to continue not to reside in one.

A passport is one of the documents under the SAVE Act that is acceptable. It is easier to get than many of the other forms of ID required under the law.

Was there fraud in the 2024 election that saw the GOP sweep the House, Senate and White House?

Take it to the courts? I don’t think it will even pass. Just a lot of blabbering over a bill currently.

People assume, or disingenuously insist, that getting documentation is easy, when it's just not.

At this point, I'm being assuming they actually care about voting integrity. They want to disenfranchise people.

Well, she must have had documentation at some point if she had a passport with that name.

My parents were both born at home. They were able to get documentation and I'm sure your people were able, as well.

Did they ever work? Social Security required documentation. Medicaid? Same.
Drive? They needed documentation.
Male? they have selective service requirements.
Register to school? they had to have documentation.

You really are reaching here.

none of these things are codified in the US Constitution as a right. Further, all of the documentation here require fees. Voting should not cost anything to be able to achieve. Otherwise, its a poll tax, per the Supreme Court.

No. It is not a poll tax. Providing documentation is not a poll tax. If you don't have the documentation, paying to get it is your problem. If you lost it, that is on you.

But, if you need it, I'm sure there will be organizations to assist you in getting your documentation.

If you have to get specific documentation to vote, it is a poll tax. Sorry you feel otherwise, but your feels are not the law.

Strongly disagree. A poll tax is a fixed amount applied to everyone regardless of wealth. Look it up.

People like you who pretend to know what they are talking about . . . look it up.

"In anticipation of the promulgation of the Twenty-fourth Amendment abolishing the poll tax as a requirement for voting in federal elections, Virginia eliminated the poll tax as an absolute prerequisite to voting in federal elections and in its stead substituted a provision whereby the federal voter could qualify either by paying the customary poll tax or by filing a certificate of residence six months before the election.

The certificate of residence requirement is a material requirement imposed upon those who refuse to surrender their constitutional right to vote in federal elections without paying a poll tax and thus constitutes an abridgment of the right to vote in violation of the Twenty-fourth Amendment."

Just filing a certificate of residency was considered a significant enough hoop that it constituted an impermissible poll tax. No fee. Not big deal. Except it was unconstitutional.

HARMAN v. FORSSENIUS 380 U.S. 528 (1965)

PS - That "U.S." in the citation means it was the United States Supreme Court. Look it up.

Big difference that you left out:

"The Court ruled that the certificate requirement was an unconstitutional "material requirement" that effectively penalized those who chose not to pay the tax."

They were using certificate of residence as an option to replace the poll tax.
Big difference. In this case, everyone is required to produce documentation of citizenship. So, not a poll tax.
