In a month she has lost the FBI and the Caps/Wizards.

How much does the city have to lose before we all admit that the city is collapsing?

This is kind of a nightmare. Follow the money people. The money is LEAVING the city.

She still has the Mystics.

The FBI leaving is a good thing so DC can develop that entire block into a mixed use building with housing. The problem is DC will require 30% of the housing to be for low income people. That’s not going to revitalize downtown. People with money is always the demographic to lure anywhere to revitalize an area.

CapOne can be converted to affordable housing as well.

According to the WP, Leonsis owns it.

See, the same crowd that got us here wants this to be a windfall for more of the same. Bowser seems to have had that wake up call, certainly was not universal.

He'll bail from it. Why would he keep it. Yay! More affordable housing!

When more and more of the city does not work at legal jobs and never will, who will pay the bills? The current policies are drawing addicts and vagrants from across the country. As more tax payers leave, what happens then?

It's clear that when fed and CRE leases expire they will shrink their footprints. The solution is not to become the homeless luxury housing destination for the US. No money = no enhanced social benefits nor new bike lanes. It's like a war between reality and DSA kool aid drinkers.

Seriously, why should DC offer more and richer (for landlords) housing vouchers than any locality in the mid-Atlantic? Maybe among most cities? Other cities try to attract more private investment. Is it the goal of activists and their political partners in DC that the District become the destination of choice for those seeking to live on taxpayer assistance?

It already has.

CA offers cash assistance but has changed their law to make involuntary commitment easier so that has lessened the appeal to some a bit. Here you get a permanent housing voucher for middle class buildings and the voucher is not removed even if you commit a crime in the unit, threaten staff, neighbors, etc. You just get relocated, maybe. Many jurisdictions offer one way bus fare and sometimes Amtrak is paid for is my understanding. Some new neighbors come via Union Station. The housing vouchers are not going to those who have been on the section 8 list for decades. We all know Chinatown has gotten worse but can we please not rewrite history? Great neighborhood? The one with the murder McDonalds? Let's be real.

Go over to Arlington (Crystal City, Wilson Blvd, etc). You don't see as many vagrants and street punks hanging around as in DC. These may be "liberal" blue localities in a purplish state, but the local police are serious about maintaining law and order. No doubt that helps to attract and retain private business employers, including major sports teams.

Let some other jurisdiction build more affordable housing for a change. Seriously. Even if DC continued to provide more and more affordable housing, vouchers, etc. (including for recent arrivals), do you think that housing is the entirety of the deal? The likelihood is that residents will require an entire array of services, which will be the responsibility of the District government.

DC does not do services. Just housing. Why work with somebody to figure out why they are homeless when you can just use them as a poster for your housing cause.

The "density" crowd here must be loving this news. Stadiums are not efficient use of space. They can turn it into affordable condos.

Between the "density" of pot stench on the streets and the hoodlums standing around waiting to sell drugs or rob passerby near the Gallery Place arena, I think I've about had it with "vibrant urbanism."

He's not local. He's from Georgia.

Sometimes it’s hard to believe how stupid some of you are. He’s a local treasure. That has nothing to do with where he was born.

People forget that Ted actually works there and sees the city every day.

I think that this goes way back to the corrupt gambling roll out pre COVID-19. The sports owners hemorrhaged potential money and then Bowser handcuffed them. They have not forgotten. And the city still has a currupt gaming interface resulting in losses for the city and teams.

This is sad. Money is LEAVING the city. That is scary.
