Okay but on the former presidents, PP’s point was that their kids had attended public schools at some point — like the Obama kids did in Chicago. I’m sure there were reasons and I don’t know anything about those schools, but these examples were kids who did not attend private all the way, although they did in DC.

Malia and Sasha went to UChicago lab school. That’s not public.

A friend whose kids went from public to private (and her DH had to get a more intense job to afford this) apparently felt defensive about the switch, enough to accuse me of not sending my kids to private because we were "gaming college admissions." Asian Americans that can afford private school tend to go that way. The y will rarely own luxury cars or a vacation home and send their kids to public.

Most Americans don't own luxury cars or vacation homes. Most people in Montgomery County don't own luxury cars or vacation homes. And stereotyping of Asian-Americans is just as bigoted as stereotyping of any other group. Stop doing it.

Realize that W schools get less funding by MCPS than schools with high FARMS rates. Class sizes are high, staffing (especially in Special Ed positions) remain vacant, bullying is rampant, and drugs are sold and used on school premises. At Churchill, there’s been high turnover in the administrative leadership.

Sure, if money wasn’t a factor, I would choose private over Churchill. We did move one child to private but we didn’t have the financial resources to move our other child. The quality and positive learning atmosphere is worth the investment for families that can afford it.
