I hated it the first 3 times I went. Now I love it. Been 7 times (used to live in Europe) and I just avoid the areas I can’t stand.
If you hated it three times, why did you go back when there are so many places to go in the world?
Because my friends and boyfriend wanted to go. Because it was an easy long weekend. I’ve been to 65 countries, I’m not missing out.
Congratulations on your huge carbon footprint. You must be so proud

Absolutely. No way would I ever suggest anyone to travel to Zanzibar on its own, but it was a nice break after a long (and overrated) safari. It’s great for that.
PP. that’s exactly the reason why we visited Zanzibar. I have to say our safari experience was amazing. We wish we had spent more time in mainland Tanzania, instead of Zanzibar.
No. Which safaris did you go on
Headed to Tanzania in December…

People who blithely dismiss cities like Rome, which contain some of the greatest treasures of art, architecture, and history that the world has ever produced, as “overrated”…
100%. I’ve been to every European place listed on here so far - none are really “over rated”. I do have preferences, like Spain instead of Italy. Everywhere in Europe instead of Germany. But if you do the right trip at the right time, there are amazing experiences everywhere.
Everyone loves to hate Paris, I’ve been around 10 times and I love it and I’m far from a Francophile.
Agree with this. I have been to every European country and Italy and Germany are my least favorite by far.
Can’t argue with stupid.
PP here. What is that supposed to mean? Have you also been to every European country? Or are you just another unsophisticated American who eats up the tourist trap that is all of Italy?
Basic Americans love to wax rhapsodic about their trip to Italy.
Oh please! I'm Italian-American and I've been going to Italy regularly since I was six years old and I'm 50-something now. There are PLENTY of places in Italy where you can get away from the hordes that are spectacular. My family is from two such regions - and no, I won't divulge them!!!
Italy is a dump. That’s probably why your family left.
Right, that’s why it’s the 5th most visited country in the world. People just love to spend money on visiting a dump.

Overrated = unrealistic expectations, which is why someone created this thread.

I’ve heard this too! Go to Africa but only do a safari for 3-4 days.
We did 7 days, and that was plenty. But I don't think 3-4 would have been enough! Unless you can afford to fly around the Serengeti.
