This thread of the discussion is getting boring. It's too extreme. Many wish they had not read the charging docs or even the article. It's something people will avoid tuning in to see and that children might see it, even with warnings. Won't get media attention.
Those thinking her family could sue media, on what grounds? The facts are laid out by the FBI not an investigative reporter.
Crimes against children are rarely covered, this one is likely to remain that way.
Raising awareness could be a benefit, maybe a dateline type story once she is convicted.

I did email a couple news outlets and nothing. Very suspicious.
It's not a general interest story, the details are too horrific. Maybe it will be covered regionally when she is convicted.

It’s very likely she was the victim of CSA as well. That doesn’t excuse her horrendous crimes, but I think it helps explain it.
Agree that is likely a factor. I would not see her nuclear family as victims here in a knee jerk way.

People concerned about lack of news coverage: you can email the news station and my experience is that usually hop on those “tips.” The news stations have hours to fill these days and they wind up repeating stories over and over to fill the time. Send them a tip. They often jump on it. In this case, the reporting is already done, as she’s in jail and the documents are right there for them. No investigation needed on their part.

In order to “save” a child she needed to find, download and send to the UA several files of child porn that she then distributed and sent to the UA? And she never thought to maybe call the police over the several weeks she would have known that a child was being abused? Instead the better idea was for her to go herself to the hotel room and what, make a citizen’s arrests?
Seriously? Because when she waived her Miranda rights this was the bs she told the FBI to try to get out of it, but then she caved. They also found lube, robes and toys in her car. So your nonsensical theory is wrong.

That's what she would like you to believe, but no if you read the docs (I recommend you do not), you will conclude a reasonable person would not engage in the dialog she engaged in, and would not show up to the location with props.
Personally, I prescribe to the theory of untreated bipolar plus possibly meth (I am not the meth poster, but happen to agree with her). I am done with this story. I DO believe her parents may have protected her, up until they didn't. I DO believe that it's hard to get a mentally unstable adult person to get into treatment. I am sorry for her whole family, and hope the ex and girls create a new life. What a horrible nightmare.

There has been a story on the Charlottesville CBS website and an article on the RTD website from another source. This has not been mentioned on any local Richmond tv stations at all. It is surprising because the family has strong Richmond connections, there are not many female child predators and generally white female predators DO make the news. Think of all the stories of the white female teachers having sexual relationships with high school students.
Also, no Wash Post, WTOP, etc. These outlets report tons of stories out of Charlottesville.
I do find this unusual.
White mom suburban housewife arrested for child porn and attempted sexual exploitation pretty much screams news headline, and definitely above the local level!
Plus, tons of visuals of her all over the place so it’s a pretty easy story to tell. Go to Warrenton and do your standup in front of the motel.

This is an extremely salacious story but no actual children were harmed. It’s main interest is local. At most you can expect coverage from the yellow press like NY Post and possibly some kind of C list Dateline show.
I have worked in both local and network news. Salacious sells, heartwarming not so much.
And yes, stories do get suppressed. People to you what to cover and you do it. Not too many choices made at the lower level.
Nobody is covering this up at WaPo or CNN. The bottom feeders that profit of this kind of crime (Daily Mail, NY Post) will cover it.
If reputable news sources like WAPO and CNN don't report this kind of crime, how would people learn about it? You are indicating that reporting it to the public is only for "bottom feeders."

She traveled to Northern Virginia to commit the crime and is being charged in DC. Definitely a local connection.
Warrenton is not northern Virginia.
Why are you going to such great lengths to justify the lack of press coverage? Northern Virginia is not incorporated so what is and what is not NOVA is up for debate. Plenty of people consider parts of Fauquier county Northern Virginia.

Not just news of things that happen in my town. It’s not like oh ok we’re safe from this type of thing happening because it occurred 100 miles from where we live…could never happen here! /s
I think the poster commenting about it being local news and not needing to be in other new outlets wishes this particular incident weren't in the news.

Having a mentally ill adult relative is indeed a difficult position, esp if trying to shield children, but tweak your approach.

PP here. I still think of people engaging in these types of behaviors as being mentally disturbed, mentally ill, etc. I think our laws are allowing far too many mentally ill individuals to remain free of longterm hospitalization. In this case, she'll likely wind up in prison.
Life plus 10 years is an appropriate sentence - nip her coming back out in the bud!
