TOPHAT did just send a bunch of younger teams to PDA Spring Kickoff. Like the pp said, STA is "fine", but not really a game changer. Definitely it makes sense with the Football Academy -> GA announcement.
If this rumor of 2 clubs is true and not just a fake post on here to stir up talking, then I would think TopHat is at the top of the list. They are in an area that is heavy MLSNext and have not been let in yet. It seems like the clubs in that area have been blocking their admission for years, so they might decide to go the other direction and bring the girls over to ECNL. There's like 4 or 5 MLSN teams in the Atlanta metro already, and they've been keeping TopHat out for years.
Spot on.
Tophat boys side and Concorde boys are amongst the strongest ECNL clubs in the country. If tophat boys flipped to MLS Next in alignment with girls academy, that would be the end of ECNL Southeast.
The question now is, do you let one team into ECNL or both?
ECNL has been holding firm that they want both the Girls and Boys top teams in ECNL, with the exception of the teams grandfathered in from when USSF shutdown DA.
I think once ECNL realizes that their Boys league will not be sought after like MLSNext is, they will loosen that requirement. I mean ECNL has already lost the battle for the boys, it's just when are they going to admit it and focus solely on the girls.

Anonymous wrote:This is what I find funny. ECNL wants GA to die. Ok, then what? ECNL wins officially? then what do those clubs do? not play? Once GA is dead then does ENCL kick all their bad clubs out? Have just the top clubs in?
The entire youth soccer system is a mess. Too many leagues, clubs, etc.
I'd be happy if it all blew up and started with one league, one pyramid and just tiered it out. Everyone under one system.
Money will never let it happen.

STA seems like a shoo-in it was rumored they were moving a few months ago. So who is the second?

If it is STA, then makes sense why they added that NJ team today. Perhaps Midwest United is getting back in ECNL - which is why they added Stars yesterday.
If that’s the case, the use of the word “Dominant” is being used loosely.
STA has a great 2008 team and that’s about it. They are phasing out this year.
Midwest United has MLS Next.
But that makes sense.
Why does Midwest United make sense? They kicked them hard to the curb and now would welcome them back?
