Yes I was so nervous and scared last year after reading the college board for a year. My kid is completely average and was admitted to all of the places he applied. It was really no big deal. DCUM is a weird place full of 350k HHI, 1400 SAT/4.2 GPAs.

Oh, wait -- those are your kid's actual stats and you're not making a joke when you said your kid is "completely average?"

You are part of the problem. You are the poster we hate.

No those were two different posters

Yes, two different posters. I commented, sarcastically, about being worried that my 4.2W 1400 SAT kid was not going to get into any colleges simply based on reading this board. I don't think that is average, but much of DCUM does. In fairness, it wasn't good enough to get admitted to an LEP at Maryland for fall admission, but he still has plenty of options.

+1

Totally agree, the last batch of parents flexing on their "average" kids are super super annoying.

+1. They define themselves by their kids' "stats" and achievements. So sad.

Please define average. Unweighted GPA? Test scores?

My sense is dcum parents define average as APs, great grades and test scores, unique extracurriculars, etc.—just not ivy level.

I want to know where a 3.4 kid with no APs and crummy test scores because they suck at math ends up. DCUM says community college.

The bolded is my kid and based on DCUM, and I was afraid he wouldn't get admitted anywhere. That's average by DCUM standards.

Not average and you are part of the problem.

Real average kid: 3.2 GPA and 1190 SAT, still go into four in state schools and four out of state schools, with merit aid at out of state. There are multiple colleges for every student. There is really no need for fear/panic/thousands of dollars for SAT prep.

Well, 4.2 isn’t average. If you don’t realize that, then you are part of the dcum bubble with a skewed perspective. Of course a kid with those stats easily got into college!
