Why? There have always been a large demographic of Republican voters that are single-issue or few-issues voters. He has been strong in areas that some people consider the only requirements. For those people, as long as he stays the course on their issues (e.g. pro-guns, anti-abortion, pro-religion), they'll continue to approve of his performance. Things like the economy and pandemic response don't mean much to them in how they vote. There are many people who feel that the federal bureaucracy runs the government and the POTUS only handles policy. So they vote on policies that matter to them and nothing else.

As long as abortions are legal, I am good with trashing the country, no matter how racist it appears or actually is.

Trump's goose is likely cooked if he loses ONE of these.

Florida -4

America is a tribal place. Though apparently possibly less tribal than I thought a few months ago.

Trump is really F-ing up.

What does this mean?

The serum test is the most common and shows that you are currently infected and can transmit the disease. It shows what is happening right now. The antibody test shows you've been infected in the past but not whether you still have virus in your system. Since these two tests show different things, statistics for them should not be combined. Combining them makes it impossible to tell if infections are increasing or decreasing.

I’m sure the sacrificial victims of the Mexica were excited about their status as victims, too.

From another thread. If GA is an economic disaster in October/November, Biden will win it.

What if Georgia opened up but nobody came?

https://www.politico.com/amp/news/2020/05/21/georg...3070?__twitter_impression=true

“Georgia’s early move to start easing stay-at-home restrictions nearly a month ago has done little to stem the state’s flood of unemployment claims — illustrating how hard it is to bring jobs back while consumers are still afraid to go outside.

Weekly applications for jobless benefits have remained so elevated that Georgia now leads the country in terms of the proportion of its workforce applying for unemployment assistance. A staggering 40.3 percent of the state's workers — two out of every five — has filed for unemployment insurance payments since the coronavirus pandemic led to widespread shutdowns in mid-March, a POLITICO review of Labor Department data shows.”

The “haters” vote is going to decide this election like they decided 2016. But in 2016, the haters broke for Trump over Clinton and in 2020 it looks like they’ll break for Biden over Trump. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-04-24/new-poll-shows-a-hidden-danger-for-trump-double-haters

“ During the last weeks of the 2016 presidential campaign, Donald Trump’s data team was obsessed with a particular subset of voters: those who disliked both Trump and Hillary Clinton. As I reported in my book about the race, Devil’s Bargain, Trump’s analysts nicknamed this group “double haters.” They comprised about 3% to 5% of the 15 million voters the campaign believed were persuadable, but they were vexing because their intentions were difficult to discern. While their voting history indicated they would likely cast a ballot, many refused to answer pollsters’ questions or declared themselves undecided.
That is, until the final days of the campaign.
On October 28, then-FBI Director James Comey announced his intention to reopen the investigation into Clinton’s disputed emails. Immediately, the double haters made up their minds and started moving en masse toward Trump. “What we saw is that it gave them a reason to vote against her instead of voting for him,” Matt Oczkowski, a Trump campaign data scientist, said at the time. “They were finally able to admit that to pollsters without feeling any guilt.””
“ Earlier this week, an NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll found Joe Biden leading Trump 49 percent to 42 percent among registered voters—roughly the margin by which Clinton led Trump in 2016, once it was clear she’d be the Democratic nominee. NBC News shared data with me from the poll on voters who had negative opinions of both Trump and Biden: the new double haters. These voters were clear in their preference. Biden was winning them 60 percent to 10 percent.”

Honestly, I find it unsurprising but disgusting that voters, once again, see no further than their pocketbooks. Presidents rarely impact the course of the economy immediately in their first four years, they inherit a global situation. So even though Trump is the worst President in the history of the USA, the fact that's going to be booted out because of the economy, and not because of bribery with Ukraine and total incompetence on a daily basis, is... mind-boggling.

Keep in mind that Biden will not be able to turn the economy around in 4 years, as the pandemic will prove tenacious and profoundly disruptive. So whatever else he does well or badly, he might get the boot too, for the same stupid reason.
