Their top 01 team is more than good enough to compete at any level. Also as someone else pointed out, EDP gives them great flexibility when it comes to fluidity between rosters. I don’t think they joined because they need to be in the more prestigious league. NCSL is just much more rigid when it comes to rosters.

Barca NOVA won't be in DA this year, but it they continue doing what they are currently doing, I can see them getting DA boys status in a couple of years with probably one of the local non-MLS clubs losing their DA status. Their U18 boys team already got good results against some DA teams in friendlies. And there were quite a few players that left DAs to join Barca boys program at the older age groups. I don't think Barca is interested in joining ECNL on the boys side. They are still developing their girls program so ECNL might be an option down the road for the girls.

That's what I'm wondering too. If they outgrow where they are playing, it would make sense to move up in competition. And there's no question the program is attracting players from all over hungry for something more.

I don't have a "point" that would be "right" or wrong. I just don't understand the decision.

Maybe third- or fourth-tier EDP will be a good place for them, which is another conversation about travel and why teams at that level would choose EDP over NCSL.

EDP gives you a lot more flexibility to move players around from team to team - pretty much total flexibility as I remember it. As long as they are of age and have a player card, they can be on the roster. The NCSL puts a lot more restrictions on club passes to prevent teams from gaming the system when it comes to division placements. I'm guessing that roster flexibility would be a big reason the Escola would prefer EDP given what they say about the importance of moving players up and down levels, age groups, etc., in their development model.

Not saying one way is better than the other, but perhaps there is at least one silver lining in the alphabet soup of youth soccer leagues we have around here.

Two of the older teams are going to Disney Showcase qualifier next week. There's bunch of teams in the state cup too.

EDP has lower divisions too. Not all of Barca's teams were placed in the top tier of EDP, although many were. One of their 2004 teams, for example, was placed in white division, which I think is the third or fourth division in EDP. I think Barca's biggest challenge will be integrating so many new players that came this year with the games starting so soon. Once the new players learn the principles of play, their teams will be fine.
