The tipping point at Prep was when overqualified kids grades/scores wise were declined admission at Prep. Brian Gilbert and Jeff Jones hated Giblin so much they actually made moves to smoke applicants out and to smoke Giblin out in his last year. We know one family where the kid who listed lacrosse was admitted to each of the Big 3 but rejected by admissions at Prep. How does that happen? Malice. Pure malice. That same kid is headed to an Ivy in the fall. Considering Prep is a school where the only chance they had in the recent 10 years to get kids into coveted non-Jesuit colleges was lacrosse, the Gilbert and Jones strategy was stupid. Nothing uglier than an Irish Catholic land war where the economic stakes are so low and the egos are so high. Yeah, I'd say all involved 'had issues'.

Well to the extent that lacrosse took the spotlight away from Prep football, Paro wasn't happy. But he wouldn't do anything to hurt the school and there's a whole lot of people (Alums, etc.) that are interested in the lacrosse program being successful.

In the Fagan years, Prep lacrosse really was the red-headed step child and Giblin had to fight for everything he got. Things were better under Paro only because there was no way to go but up. A lot of kids chose Prep to play lacrosse there which made Admissions happy.. And there for a while, many of the football players at Prep came there to play lacrosse as their primary sport..

The hiring process and the coach that is selected will speak volumes about the direction of the lacrosse program. It's not impossible that GP lax will be a second tier priority.

The story that GP fired the coach makes zero sense. If Paro is still negative on lacrosse, than why fire the coach? It's logically inconsistent. You fire the coach because you are unhappy with the program and the results and you want to bring in somebody better.

People forget (on purpose) that Giblin resigned. He was not fired. He resigned because of a list of demands he had that he didn't feel were being met (Admissions for Lax "recruits" , Financial Aid, etc). Now this wasn't the first time he resigned and he may have been doing this to force the issues. But he did have issues.

The problem is Danny Paro - the prep athletic director who resents the lacrosse program.

Horning did Prep no small favor to step in when he did. Te Giblin end was ugly and Horning kept it together. I don't know what happened here, but if Prep just dumped him that would only confirm my very negative opinion on the new regime of the new order running the school now. Giblin was a tough personality, but the backlash and undermining of him by Brian Gilbert & Co was just so awful. I wouldn't trust the people running Prep now. Not one bit.

Way to go, Prep. Blaming CH on the decline of the program and giving him only 2 years is a joke. The decline is about Gonzaga and, to a much lesser extent, other Catholic schools that the Catholic Mafia is opting for over Prep.

I wouldn’t worry too much about this Summer. The out-going coach is still around and can talk to college coaches about current players.

I have been around Prep athletics for a long time and I am very curious about how this new hire will be identified and hired.
For you current parents, you are going to see how GP really operates and what the post-Giblin athletic priorities are.. I can pretty much promise you this will be frustrating. (A "succession Plan" Who has one of those? I don't thing big-time football schools do.)

They will get somebody good. It won’t be like when previous AD gave the basketball coaching job to his son-in-law, who was completely unqualified and failed miserably.

But I don’t think is going to be some rising star that sees Prep as one of the first rungs up the coaching ladder. (Navy Coach, Rick Sowell, was the St Albans coach at the beginning of his career.)

It will probably be someone who is a known quantity there and that they feel they can manage. The days of the lacrosse program operating outside the lines of the Athletic Department are over and they do not want to go back to that.

Not having a head lacrosse coach in during the summer recruiting seasons is pretty bad. There are a lot of pissed of parents right now for not having a true successor plan. It makes the athletic leadership look incompetent.

Appreciate it. I am the one who noted the Laxpower and DCSF comments about it. Heard it going around but there was nothing substantial backing it up. Your post is the closest thing to facts regarding the situation I have seen.

Well, there's all sorts of ways to figure this, biut someone on LAXPower listed the high schools for the 764 players who participated in the NCAA Tourney.

That's a pretty big sample.

And the results are that the IAC isn't close to being the Baltimore MIAA in terms of producing college players on the better teams.

The IAC had 16 players:
GP - 6
SSSA - 4
Landon - 2
Epis - 2
Bullis - 2
Total - 16 or 2.2% of participants

The MIAA -A (8 Schools of the 11) had 63 players or 8.2%
Calvert Hall - 15
Boys Latin - 14
Gilman - 9
St Marys - 6
Calverton - 5
Loyola Blakefield - 5
McDonough - 5
St Pauls - 4
Total - 63

Calvert Hall and Boy's Latin had very close to as many players in the Tournament as the entire IAC (6 Teams)
