You all keep thinking there is some GOP line, but we have seen it crossed and retreated since 2016. There is no low for the GOP.

I think this is correct. There are enough Republicans in the Senate who recognize that invading a NATO country and taking Greenland by force will be catastrophic for the US - from losing all our bases in Europe to the end of the US dollar as the reserve currency to the collapse of the American economy because no one is buying our $39 trillion of debt and on and on. 80 years of post-WWII American dominance would disappear in a heartbeat. And for what? The US is welcome to put more bases and air defense in Greenland right now.

Furthermore, if Trump does order the invasion of Greenland, I suspect there are very few senior military officers who will actually obey that order. Every American officer knows how insane this is and how contrary it is to U.S. national security.

Given all that, Trump is almost certainly to be impeached if he gives the order to take Greenland. Not even conservatives support such stupidity.

But the fact that Trump is pushing this so hard raises very serious questions. Trump is either far too deranged and demented to be president, or he is in fact a Russian agent.

Stop hoping that anyone in the GOP is offering resistance. The minute he threatens any of them, they resign and hide, like MJT.

You act as though either Denmark or the US will own Greenland. And more plausible scenario is that the US will own it, or China or Russia will. Denmark is not capable of defending Greenland. Be serious for a moment. They cannot. So either we take it and defend it, or China and Russia will.

Um, as a NATO member, *we* are supposed to help defend Greenland.

NATO is supposed to be a shared defense organization. Not a "you can eff around, spend nothing on defense, and America will come rescue you" organization. I really don't give a crap how Europeans feel about any of this. You do realize that they have free health care and incredible social benefits, while expecting us to pay for their defense. How is that fair to poor Americans? I'm not okay with this. They can either step up and pull their weight, or we will take Greenland and more. And furthermore, if they want to seek protection from Russia rather than us, they will be in an even worse boat. They have completely given up- stagnant economies, moronic decisions like closing nuclear plants so now high energy bills and worse pollution, no defense, no children and no future.

You are an idiot. It is amazing that people as ignorant as you actually say this stuff out loud!

Checkout US overseas bases and see which ones are in NATO members countries. Look at shared bases. The US will be kicked out of everyone of these bases and countries. No more tanker fleet, no use of any European airspace or overseas territory. Losing Diego Garcia will really hurt. With out Turkey and Italy’s base you can not defend Israel. You can attack Iran because of the refueling assets being most NATO.

The US will not able to project power. We will be out of Europe, the pacific, five eyes, Canadian airspace will be off limits, etc. The US will have to increase defense spending by 5 times and still not have the same abilities we have now. We will not be able to supply our fleet or use port facilities.

NATO countries have a GDP of 27 trillion. The US GDP is 29 trillion. Now look at how much the NATO members spend - 500 billion a year. This is just for European defense. The US spends 825 billion. The European will drop US defense contracts. This will increase procurement and maintenance cost by 2-4 times.

Good grief you have no clue. This is a disaster.

The geopolitical equivalent of committing state suicide.

The first effect is this: The US seizing territory from a NATO country, won’t be letters of protest or Ambassador recalls.

It will trigger the end of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation, which provides at its core - a treaty between member nations. At the heart and design of this treaty is the collective defence obligation “an armed attack on one, is an attack on all”.

This treaty has kept the peace for over 75 years, and it will cease to exist immediately, as the aggressor is a member of NATO. The organisation will lose a principal ally, while creating a new enemy.

Potential repercussions: If only a few of these materialise - it will be catastrophic for the USA.

Europe will immediately demand the closure of every U.S. military base on the continent. Ramstein in Germany, Aviano in Italy, Lakenheath in the UK.

The US’s ability to project power into the Middle East and Africa vanishes overnight. They will be evicted from the very soil they helped liberate and defended for decades, and forced to retreat to their own shores as a fortress nation, isolated and friendless. Perhaps Trump may even forge new alliances with Russia and China.

Economically, the European Union is the largest single market in the world, and they will immediately be compelled to respond to it, under Article 47.2 TFEU - which is the EU’s own mutual defence treaty and framework.

Europe will likely move to call in U.S. debt and dump their dollar reserves, sending the value of our currency into a death spiral.

The U.S. economy, which relies on the dollar being the global reserve currency, will collapse. Inflation will make the post-COVID spikes look like a rounding error. US citizens savings will be worthless before the ink dries on the invasion orders.

Corporate America will face an extinction event. U.S. companies will be expelled from the European market. Apple, Google, McDonald's, and Tesla will see their assets seized or their operations banned.

Trillions of dollars in market capitalization will be incinerated in minutes. The stock market will not just crash; it will close. We are talking about the complete de-globalization of American industry, cutting them off from the wealthiest consumers on the planet.

The skies will go silent. European aviation authorities will almost certainly ground all Boeing jets and ban U.S. airlines from their airspace. Transatlantic travel will cease. If US citizens are in Paris or Berlin, they are stuck there. The logistical arteries that feed our supply chains will be severed.

The US will be cut off from European medicine, machinery, and technology. They will be an island nation in the worst possible sense.

The cultural isolation will be just as stinging. The International Olympic Committee and FIFA will have no choice but to bar the United States from competition, just as they did with Russia.

For individual Americans, the consequences will be personal and painful. Visa-free travel to Europe will end immediately. Americans currently living or working in Europe will lose their legal protections and residency status.

This is the end of trust, and it does not reset.

You cannot invade a democratic ally and then say "my bad" four years later. The psychological break will be permanent.

Europe will realize that the United States is no longer a partner but a predator. Europe will build its own defense architecture, their own financial systems, and their own alliances that specifically exclude the US.

The West will continue, but the United States will no longer be part of it. This is by design of the Trump regime and it’s army of social media influencers acting as officially endorsed pseudo advisors.

Invading or annexing Greenland is not a show of strength; it is an act of national suicide.

Thank you.

2025 Denmark spending on defense as % of GDP is exactly the same as the US, and Norway spent more. So do the Baltic states and Poland. So does Poland. NATO countries are at or above the 2% at this time.

BTW under Trump the number of countries meeting the 2% benchmark doubled. But under Biden it more than doubled.

Europe has shown up for some of our military nonsense, like Iraq.

And if you want to change something, this is *not* the way to go about it.

But why would anyone expect a guy with 3 failed marriages to know anything about maintaining relationships?

No. You're making things up now. The same European nations that are countering us right now, countered us with the Global War on Terror. Jacques Chiroc famously tried to stop the Iraq war on the grounds that it was, in his words, a violation of international law. He threatened to use France's veto power at the UN security council. Germany agreed, which is why we pulled our troops out and closed our bases in Germany. PP, if you view international relations as being just like a marriage, you are dangerously naive and out of your depth.

The Iraq war WAS a violation of international law authorized on the basis of deception. JD Vance said "based on a lie."

None of what you said entitles the US to seize sovereign territory. As Von der Leyen said, sovereign territory is the underlying basis for all international law and geopolitics. You CANNOT steal someone else's land, unless you want to be a pariah state like Russia. If the USA seizes Greenland, they will destroy what remains of their Allies' goodwill and it will usher in a new era of global instability where it's every nation for themselves and some countries will start taking other people's lands with impunity. Millions will die. Starting with China taking Taiwan.

THIS is what starts WWIII.

You need look beyond your stupid conquest dreams to the inevitable consequence, PP. This time it's nuclear war. You will die.

The imports that will now cost more for the US, thanks to Trump:

Denmark: Packaged medicine ($4.6B), vaccines/blood products ($590M), orthopedic appliances ($418M)

Norway: Refined petroleum ($1.23B), fish fillets ($960M), raw nickel ($351M)
