Nice post, PP. Stay classy, St. Albans!

To build on the prior note about not equating an entire sports program with the football program -- went over to watch St. Albans soccer play Sidwell the other day. Good game, Sidwell won 2-0. I think the Sidwell boys' soccer team is ranked, and believe the Sidwell girls' soccer team is too -- the NCS girls' soccer team is also strong so that could be a good match-up with banner (league title) implications. Our kids say Sidwell's boys and girls' cross-country teams are solid too. Finally, saw on the Channel 9 news last night (Game of the Week!) that Sidwell won its most recent football game too. So, from your friends down the street on Wisconsin Ave, good job with the sports and don't get too bent out of shape by these nasty posts. In the end it's about providing a great education and a good team sports experience for kids, and our schools are all doing that.

What perpetuates this thread in large part are the Sidwell parents and their inane, illinformed replies (e.g. anyone who replies to this thread must be affiliated with Landon, Sidwell's athletic program is comparable to strong programs in the area, anyone who likes football must be a meathead, etc.)

as someone with no dog in this fight, I find it extremely comical that so many people want to attack a school like Sidwell for having a bad football team. For the math challenged - SOME schools must be bad at football. Not every team can be good. Sidwell is known as a top academic prep school with politicians' kids. Many teams in other sports ARE good. I don't see the problem.

Seems like tons of jealous people are doing the criticism. It is hard for a small top academic school which does not recruit to be good at football. Real hard. And that's ok. There are other sports, and in the end, sports are an extracurricular activity like many others. They're supposed to be fun competition, and the main mission of a SCHOOL is to educate.

And yes, I played sports (though not football, so my brain still works).

I would never say that it is impossible that we were hacked. A lot more secure places than DCUM have been hacked. But, I sincerely doubt anyone wasting his time in this thread has the wherewithal to pull it off.

Sidwell is a wonderful academic school that fields lots of teams and affords lots of athletic opportunities, and along the way sends a respectable number of male and female athletes on to play in college. If you are looking for top football, send your child to Good Counsel, but better be certain he's very talented or he'll never play. And no, the teaching won't generally be as good nor the other students as bright as at Sidwell.

This thread to me is like a website dedicated to saying Harvard football stinks because they can't play SEC or PAC-10 teams. (On a related note, interesting article in Washington Post on how the University of Chicago, with 15,000 students, happily fields a D-3 football team.)

I think the misogynist (only boys' sports matter) obsessed (same IP address again and again) poster is either (a) an angry Sidwell current parent; (b) an angry former Sidwell parent; or (c) a parent of a child who didn't get in to Sidwell (or was counseled out, possibly).
