I would be very, very happy to not use the word "weird" about candidates for president and vice president of the United States. I would be DELIGHTED if the republican candidates for the most important jobs in the world were again boring normies. Who knows, maybe I'd even vote for them, too.

Unfortunately, we are in a world where one of the two major parties is an absolute freakshow — a clown car of looney-tune cult members who are wildly out of step with what most Americans actually want, and yet who are are determined to impose their weird will on the country anyway.

It's been said multiple times in this thread, but MAGA has gleefully (so gleefully!) driven from the party everyone who was even remotely normal. Along with voter mobilization and nonviolent protests, one of the most effective tools for combating autocrats is to make them look ridiculous. Autocrats and aspirant autocrats often are ridiculous, in part because they have purged anyone from the inner circle who might tell them that attacking "cat ladies" is a losing proposition, and that showing off your gold plated toilet is just weird.

The legitimacy of an autocrat-aspirant is their perceived strength. If you can poke holes in that, they are left with nothing.

I respect this answer a lot, but also they’re actually weird so it works very well because of that.
