College Soccer Stats makes some good points in response to the post:
"I don't understand why this is such a debate. Shouldn't these leagues be working together for 'the players' ?? Why is there so much divide about "which league is the best" ??? It seems like a marketing plot for certain clubs to hide behind the badge and charge naive American soccer parents thousands per year with the magic words "college soccer scholarship/exposure"
College soccer is a non-revenue sport anyways, so full-rides are rare and even after academic/merit money -- you will likely continue to pay a healthy amount out-of-pocket, just like you've been doing from U12-U19 club soccer.
As soon as a club announces on social media "we are MLS Next/ECNL/GA next year" a bunch of soccer families club-hop...then a few years later when those players commit -- those clubs all pass off those college commitments as their own......did you really develop that player or just poach them from another club at U16???
Could we please just simplify it all and go back to local/regional leagues, state cup, and 1 national tournament to determine a true winner. It will never be a perfect or "free-to-play" system, there will always be costs, but we could at least get a lil closer....
I think we've lost the plot."
