Took my kid to Justice HS this morning for SAT and Justice has better facilities than McLean. McLean looks like a dump, and I can’t even play tennis at McLean because they put trailers on the tennis courts. I am paying 25k/yr for my McLean home property tax and get shitty McLean HS facilities. I am for separating Mclean from Fairfax county.

So McLean (as a city) could separate and operate with its own school board for funding, capital improvements, facility use, and related issues, but still contract out to FCPS for instruction, i.e., teachers/staffing, just like Fairfax City.

Or I wonder if a complete split (like Falls Church City, Manassass Park, etc.) is what Mclean residents really want. McLean would then have complete control over its curriculum and attendance boundaries. Unfortunately students in the Falls Church section of Fairfax County would then no longer be able to attend McLean HS. Marshall is close by however.

Just wait until you realize that Great Falls makes up at least half - if not more - of Langley students.

Sounds like McLean is starting to catch up to where Great Falls already was in terms of disappointment with FCPS. If they are allowed to exit, I’m sure they will coordinate and do so together, especially since both Langley HS and McLean HS are in McLean.

Langley, however, is happy with FCPS, not disappointed.

Segregating from idiots ^^^ would certainly be preferable to the status quo.

Huh - I haven’t seen any of the above on display here, except by those who can’t stand the thought of losing the cash cow that is McLean/Great Falls. Congratulations on living down to expectations.

Sorry you feel so threatened when other people advocate for greater autonomy to stop getting screwed by people who want their tax dollars but provide inferior services and under-invest in their communities.

Yes, and with TJ about to be torn apart, it’s an opportunity to ensure at least two neighborhood high schools will be excellent. Left to its own ineptitude FCPS will probably redistrict Great Falls kids out of Langley and continue to neglect McLean.

I really don't mind paying more taxes for better and more responsive services. And it is not clear that taxes will definitely be higher.

FCC makes it work with 1/4th the population and New McLean would have considerably more resources. Imagine a place that actually cared about its residents and didn’t just treat them as a cash cow. Please, MCA, do your thing!

And they could get back to having an actual gifted program because the general education classes would not be the wild west that parents are desperately trying to escape!
