Increases the chances the GOP loses the senate if Collins etc have to cast a vote against Roe. If they lose the senate, Dems should pack the court. So republicans should decide if they prefer a 5-4 majority or 7-6 minority.
People keep saying this buts it’s total BS.
Only 25-30 percent of the people polled actually want to do this. And just like Reid screwing his party by invoking the nuclear option, this will screw over the Dems too....
So you get Biden and a Dem Senate, increase court to 12, then eventually you get a Republican President and senate and they FU and increase it to 17 and pack it will all conservatives and so forth, so we may have 30-40 justices on the court... once you open that door, it will hit you him the butt really hard on your way out.
The door to this was open decades ago. Politicians started violating the political norms that make democracy viable. It's been escalating ever since and here we are. If you do not want this to continue, then you tell your Republican Senator not to do this. If he does do this, then you should pray Trump and McConnell win, because they don't, Democrats will definitely retaliate.
I don't care who started it. If you choose to continue, that's on you. I don't blame you for it. But I'm also not going to let 5 justices, including 3 that shouldn't even be there blow up everything I ever wanted for this country.

Murkowski already announced she wouldn’t vote for a nominee right?
Romney has been quiet, but I think he’s a probable no.
One thing to remember is that Martha McSally will probably lose her election and, since she was appointed, has to be out by November 30th (but Mark Kelly can kick her out on Nov 4th). Therefore, unless the GOP can get all of this done before the election, they’ll be down to 52 seats, which means 3 defections would be enough.
Won’t matter, Alabama is going Republican (also a special election seat)
Alabama is not holding a special election for Doug Jones’s seat this year. You don’t know what you are talking about.

Yup. Because the democrats got rid of the filibuster for judicial nominations. Resp the whirlwind.
Wrong. Dems left it for the supreme court. Republicans blew it up for gorsuch
Wrong. Reid knew damn well this was going to happen. He was promised that it would and he didn’t care. It opened the gates and you know it. If Reid hadn’t done it, you wouldn’t be in this situation. Reap what you sow.
No we'd still be here. If Reid hadn't done it, McConnell would have and he knew it too. McConnell was already abusing the filibuster all over the place, and Reid asked him repeatedly to stop. Don't be a fool. You like McConnell politically and that's fine, but don't pretend he is not a total asshole. Reid was pretty dickish too, honestly. Nice guys don't become majority leader.
McConnell is one of the worst things they had ever happened to our country. Trump is a total moron, but he is a symptom. McConnell is actually the problem. Asshole.

Wow. I didn't expect such forthrightness of Collins. Major CYA to please both parties before her potential re-election. I'll take it!
She will vote for the nominee after the election...win or not.
Maybe, maybe not. If she loses the election she will be free for the first time in her career. Then we will see what she really thinks. I think she really is pro-choice. I could be wrong though.
She is a pro-choice Republican and has made no bones about that. I am also a pro-choice Republican.
Hope you’re voting for Biden then.
Nope. I used to be a one-issue voter but no more. There are other issues at stake now.
Other issues than a woman’s right to choose? Don’t really care about that one that much?
Don’t call yourself an advocate for women if you plan to vote for that monster.
Of course there are other issues IN ADDITION to a woman’s right to choose. I no longer vote on that one issue because I know that Roe v Wade will not be reversed, no matter how much Democrats try to fear monger. It just won’t. So now I’ve moved on to other issues that ALSO concern me. Unlike you, I’m able to consider multiple issues at one time.
Ginsburg also had a legacy beyond abortion, but those issues don't seem to matter to you.

He barely won the election in 2016 with zero political experience and since he became a president, he had already picked two supreme court justices. This will be his third pick. And in the middle of a very difficult reelection fight, this event may help him to shift a focus from the pandemic to the supreme court.
The Supreme Court is poised to eliminate health insurance for tens of millions of people in the middle of the pandemic, so they’re very much intertwined.
It has basically already happened. A hung court (at best 4-4) lets the lower court decision stand. ACA is all bet dead.
Will ACA end immediately?
As soon as the court releases an opinion next summer. The case is being heard in November. The only thing that will stop it is if Biden wins and the Congress passes a law that corrects the flaws in the current court case. Trump will let it die and millions will be uninsured. He has no replacement policy.
