I’m choosing to look at the upside here.
There are plenty of conservative women who are anti abortion, for OTHER women.
I’m all for taking away their right to a safe legal abortion.
Enough of them bleed out in back alleys, and it will improve the country two fold.
1) eliminates lower IQ from the gene pool
2) improves the polling data

If a woman chooses to have sex with a particular man, and she gets pregnant, then he becomes part of the decision-making process. That's one reason it's so important for truly self-empowered women to make responsible choices. That's how she gets to control what happens to her own body.

The fact meant decide it is not relevant. A Gallup poll posted earlier shows almost half of women are pro-life and not pro-abortion. The numbers between men and women who were pro-life were only about 2% different.

When I was pregnant with my first daughter I found out at 16 weeks I carried a genetic mutation that, if inherited by both parents, was fatal. In many situations the mutation would cause stillbirth. When babies were born with the mutation they would die a painful death - usually within a few months, but sometimes surviving up to a year. We knew we didn’t want a baby born to that circumstance. We got my husband tested for the mutation, but had to wait 3-4 weeks for the results. We could have found out immediately with amniotic testing, but the odds that my husband had the mutation and the fetus would inherit it from both parents and the risk of miscarriage from testing were about comparable (1:200 or so) so we waited. Meanwhile we were researching abortion options and found many states limited then around 20 weeks on the premise that that’s when a baby feels pain. I have no idea when a fetus can feel pain, but I was certain a disease causing bones to knit until a child suffocated would be painful too and abortion seemed a preferable option. To say I was deeply relieved when I learned my husband didn’t carry the mutation is an understatement. Never did I expect to be researching 3rd trimester abortions and, prior to that point, frankly didn’t understand why anyone would consider one.

I thought my 2nd pregnancy would be much easier, but found out at my first appointment (6 or 7 weeks) that I had a complication that put me at increased risk for miscarriage and at heightened risk of developing sepsis. Typically this complication either resolves itself or can be medically corrected in the 2nd trimester, so we just had to hope I’d make it that far. In other cases, however, the complication does not resolve and then has about a 80% maternal fatality rate. (I tried asking both my ob and my high risk specialist whether this was a risk and both said “let’s reassess in the 2nd trimester”) If I’d had to decide at that 1st appointment / within the first weeks whether to abort - knowing there was some chance the complication could kill me - I don’t know what I would have done. I’d spent a few years trying to conceive and don’t know that I could have again, but felt an obligation for my older daughter to have a mother. I also don’t know what would “count” in such a case about the life of the mother being at risk. Is 80% sufficient? 50%...? (One could argue that the life of the mother is at risk in all pregnancies, and more so for bland women). At any rate, I had the luxury of being able to go on modified bedrest and wait and see what happened and discovered at 17 weeks we were out of the woods.

I have no problem with them making that choice of no abortion for themselves but they don’t get to restrict the liberty of others to make a different choice for themselves.
