I engage because I see that, for whatever reason, VYS parents are very passionate about the club. But I see them literally destroying the reputation of the club from the view of outsiders.

I am an outsider and I am telling you with no agenda and all honesty how these posts and this forum comes across. I'm telling you that nothing that you are posting here is helping the club's reputation or your kids in any positive way.

Don't worry about why I would bother to waste my time telling you all this and worry more about the fact that this thread is so over the top negative that someone from the outside actually feels compelled enough to tell you how you all look from the outside.

Accept that or not.

The switch to birth-year age groups will create a lot of chaos this year.

Let's say your club has four U9 teams and four U10 teams -- 11 players per team, 44 players total.

Now let's say the U9s are mostly 2006 birthdates -- maybe 33 of the 44 players.

And let's say the U10s have a more even split between 2005 and 2006 -- 22/22.

So from these two age groups, you'll have:
11 2007s (lots of openings at U10 for current crop of older U8s)
55 2006s (overload at U11)

Another club might have slightly different age demographics, and perhaps they'll actually have openings at U11 but not much at U10 or U12.

I'm confused, Did you think that your kid was guaranteed a spot just because s/he tried out? That's not how travel works. Even at larger clubs like VYS that have multiple travel teams in an age group, at some point there are kids that are deemed not ready for travel and are not offered a position. Now if s/he was on a travel team last year, the coach should have the decency to let you know that your kid might not have a position so you have time to check out other clubs - something that McLean has not taught all of their coaches.

Tell your kid to keep working hard and if they're interested, take advantage of the many training outside opportunities in the area and try again next year. I know of players who didn't make VYS travel one year that have gone on to make the A team or even win a State Cup at another club.

Don't be too discouraged, but be realistic.


So what's the overall outlook for the travel teams going into the next season? Is there a good mix of talent and skill-levels among the age groups for ODSL/NCSL/VPL?

I'm confused, Did you think that your kid was guaranteed a spot just because s/he tried out? That's not how travel works. Even at larger clubs like VYS that have multiple travel teams in an age group, at some point there are kids that are deemed not ready for travel and are not offered a position. Is this within any particular age/gender/league? If they are not offered a spot in travel, then do they just go play REC, or are they out of luck for soccer this season?

My kid says he will 'show no mercy'. It ain't t my revenge to play out, but that little kid has been through so much shit if he feels the need to go kick them in the balls when he plays them in the next tournament--I'm not standing in his way.

Revenge=proving them wrong.

Like when my National player sibling didn't list his home club in his creds because they spent years fucking with him.

Doing well and exceeding in adversity is grit with a healthy dose of fuck you.

Entitled is when you don't train and don't put in the work and expect things to go your way.


I like the moxy. Kids that have it in them to go prove somebody wrong by digging deep and putting in the hours should be celebrated. It is a good motivator.


Michael Jordan still mentions the HS basketball coach that cut him.

Although "letting it play out on the field" puts all the pressure on a bunch of kids who didn't create the situation.

I suggest making the parents do sprints.
