They are eliminating split feeders at both Wolftrap and Spring Hill ES.
It’s so obvious some of you have no ability to read a map. If you did you’d know moving Lees Corner when it’s so close to Chantilly would be the epitome of stupid. It appears Reid and several School Board have quickly come to the same conclusion.
Scenario 1 tries to eliminate Navy as a split feeder - by moving current Navy Chantilly HS families (including Highland Oaks) all the way to Oakton HS. Sorry but not interested in that commute. The elementary school kids all change friends in middle school anyway. I’m not sure I see a need to keep all of the elementary at the same high school?
Scenario 3 also eliminates Navy as a split feeder by moving all current Navy Oakton HS families over to Chantilly HS.
That requires bumping Lee's Corner out--it is not going to happen unless they move out a whole bunch of Brookfield and Poplar Tree.
But why would moving Navy Chantilly HS families to Oakton HS bump Lees Corner out of Chantilly? I don’t get the connection?
OOPs! I Must have misread. I thought you were moving all of Navy IN to Chantilly. But, those Navy kids live across the road from Chantilly. They should not move them out.
Yeah. Scenario 1 moves all Navy kids out to Oakton. Scenario 3 moves all Navy kids in to Chantilly. Scenario 2 leaves the Navy kids’ high schools alone which is why I’m in favor of that one.
Scenario 3 moves all the newly zoned Navy kids to Chantilly, but it also rezones a portion of them to Waples Mill > Oakton. However, if they aren’t touching ES boundaries now, then there will still be a portion of Navy kids who go to Oakton.
Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Considering kids change friendships over time, make new friends in middle school, is it that important/does it make sense to keep the entire elementary school at the same high school even at the expense of commute? I’m feeling like aligning middle schools to high schools is more important?
+1. I have a student at Franklin right now and nearly all of his friend group will go to a high school different from him. I am ambivalent about which high school my younger two kids attend, but would like it to be one that the majority of their middle school is attending. To me, that is the issue with Scenario 2 that so many like. It sends the Navy kids to Rocky Run where most will continue on to Chantilly and only a small fraction would go to Oakton (we're in the small fraction).

I wish they had put the spa numbers on the maps.
Last good SPA map I found was the one from the FCPS [not consultant] Coates cancelled project that was wrapped into the incompetent. https://www.fcps.edu/sites/default/files/Coates-Area-Boundary-Maps.pdf
Using boundary locator and finding addresses from some gives you an idea of the absurdity on basic stuff like AAP feeds and school assignments.

Makes the most sense.
I agree. It's the least disruptive for everyone. Keeps most people close to their high schools.
Except Crossfield folk.
What are you talking about? Moving Crossfield to Skyview absolutely keeps people close to their high schools.
I’m talking about Scenario 2 idiot. Scenario 2 doesn’t actually move Crossfield to Skyview. Keep up.
Go read the first pp. For Skyview: Scenario 2 but substitute Crossfield for Fox Mill. Everybody stays close to their school. Most logical conclusion.

Anywhere from 7.4 to 7.6 miles to Westfield - 20 minutes or 17 minutes.
Anywhere from 9.4 miles to 11 miles - 16 to 22 minutes.
Mileage wise Westfield is the clear winner.

You either have a dumb map or a dumb brain
Nope. I literally took a street from RIO and mapped it to both schools. It’s actually still further miles wise to Oakton.
Just checked and for me, its about 5 min further, but if you're east side of west ox it gets complicated.
I took a street from a Crossfield neighborhood and it’s clear as day that Westfield is closer.
The fastest route right now from my house to Oakton is 14 minutes. The fastest route to Westfield HS is 17 minutes.
9 to Chantilly
8 to Skyview
9 to South Lakes
What's the mileage?
Travel time will vary throughout the day depending on commuter traffic
