Why do you think US teams suck in the international arena?? Before patriots jump on the whole women’s team being world champs more than anyone just remember two undisputed facts:
1) they played and won most of their trophies when the planet didn’t care about women’s soccer (those tourneys had like 12 total teams, some being china and North Korea LoL)
2) now that the rest of the world empowers female soccer we are seeing how QUICKLY those nations have surpassed us in under a decade.
Make of that what you will and keep supporting these foreigner ‘coaches’ who have anger management problems and couldn’t cut it in their places of origin.

Meanwhile, there are plenty of girls out there quietly showing up, playing lights-out week after week, and somehow never quite making the list. So I was just wondering… are players sent in are club favorites, or are U.S. scouts the ones doing the choosing?
Not trying to stir up trouble, just trying to connect the dots.
It’s mostly club favorites unless there is a clear superstar. But even in that case the superstar will of course also be a coach favorite. There really isn’t much differentiation among players at a club despite parents who think their child is special. Many players are hard working and deserving. The club wants to send players who best represent the club and coaches, and also reward loyal players and families. Sometimes promises are made in order to recruit players to the club or prevent players from leaving.
While the selection process is flawed also realize these selections mean very little in college recruiting. Especially for the younger ages. Everybody knows clubs get invites to hand out and these talent ids are a dime a dozen. Like student of the month at school. For the few special players who are truly at the YNT level, who are selected and attend the regional or national camps, the scouts know who they are already from watching them at showcase events. If you aren’t sure if your child is at that level, then I have to break it to you: they aren’t.
So ALL selection processes are flawed with humans in the loop so that says nothing. But your statement that “there really isn’t much differentiation among players at a club” is a real loser argument. Of course there is, just watch a couple games and it’s pretty clear there is. You might have tried to provide an honest neutral answer but sounds like you’re a bit bitter on how your kid stacks up. Is their bias, yep. Do we all have some bias, yep. You got a solution, nope. Work hard, train hard, take risks, look for the best opportunity to excel and then maybe you make it to the top. No guarantees in life or soccer is a cliche but true. Best of luck to all the kids.
The talent id selection is flawed because the clubs do the selection on who goes, so they can make promises and send their favorites. US soccer doesn't have or won't invest the resources to scout every showcase to take club coaches out of the process. One improvement would be to have opposing coaches do the recommendations but that doesn't mean clubs won't collude with each other to send their favorites.
There is no perfect system.

Seems like people just look to find ways to be pissed off. Also, I saw someone say they see parents video-ing behind coaches and players during games? Never would that happen in any league. Someone back this??
