2021: Mr President, what is your plan to address the current border crisis?

Biden: there is no border crisis

2022: Mr President, the ongoing border crisis has reached unprecedented levels

Biden: there is no border crisis

2023: Mr President, don’t you think it’s time to address this border crisis? Sorry, border invasion? It’s becoming absurd

Biden: there is no border crisis

2024: Biden: there is an ongoing border crisis and it’s all Trump’s fault

Honestly can’t stop laughing about this

Bipartisan as in a reform bill written by Republicans who support open borders and Democrats who support open borders.

Republicans made demands, negotiated a deal with Democrats, but won’t vote for the deal they demanded. This is what Republicans have done consistently since 1990. They never deliver the votes for changes that they demanded. There is no point in ever negotiating with Republicans. They always act in bad faith.

Since November, speaker Johnson has consistently said “it needs to be substantially similar to the border bill we’d already passed otherwise it is DOA in the house”

So establishment old-school senile Republicans in the Senate decided to ignore the base, and “negotiate” a bill that was mainly garbage and didn’t include anything from H.R. 2

This is not even remotely close to what was demanded. The demand was Ukraine aid for border restrictions—we don’t want to pour tens of billions into Ukraine but you do. We want the border restrictions passed, you don’t. Give us the border restrictions and we’ll give you the foreign aid.

Yet the ultra-until-3-days-ago “compromise” gave them the Ukraine aid for what essentially would be a performative bureaucratic mess of non-restrictions.

Teethless, so many loopholes, somehow included an increase in visas too.

It was a joke, read the bill. It’s awful.

“ The measure has the support of business lobbying groups as well as the organization representing the mayors of every U.S. city with a population above 30,000. The labor union for border-patrol agents, which endorsed Donald Trump in 2020, supports the plan. So do the editorial boards of The Washington Post, which leans left, and The Wall Street Journal, which is deeply conservative.”

How can it be “awful” with so much conservative support?

Aid for Ukraine was the concession, in return for HR 2. And that didn’t happen. And also this was Democrat caused in the first place so no actually. You’re lying to yourself if you think the public is going to pin this as the GOPs fault.

Aid for Ukraine was linked to a border bill in general...nobody agreed that bill had to be HR 2.

They’re not supposed to do anything. Part of the maga charm is wrecking everything. Literally that’s what they want to do, because if everything in government is destroyed, they can point to it and say “look how bad government it! nothing works!” when really government is fine, it’s them that doesn’t work.

The MAGAs have shown that they’re fundamentally unserious about governing. No amount of spin is going to polish that tu-rd.

It wasn't closed under Trump, unless you think Chip Roy is lying here:

hit the nail on the head.

a border security bill that includes expansion of green cards and expansion of HXXB visas

dead on arrival was the only option.

Democrats are clueless.

Not to mention it didn’t even include any actual measures to restrict the border. Full of loopholes, a very vague and open to interpretation change of language that probably wouldn’t end up restricting asylum. Continued catch and release, further codified abuse of parole. Not even remotely similar to H.R. 2

It was neogitated by the hardest core conservative in the Senate and you complain. Go figure.

MAGA Conservative (aka the base) =/= Establishment Conservative.

There’s a reason Trump handily has beaten every establishment GOP competitor he’s had.

The Congress could have passed an Ukraine/Taiwan/Israel bill last fall, but the GOP insisted on the border component. What a waste of time.

Tucker Carlson interviewed Putin. Not getting the aid bill passed last fall worked out exactly how they wanted.

The bill was 80% of what Johnson wanted. In a divided government, 50% would have been a win. So they get 80% and throw in the towel. Not a leigitimate negotiation partner.

No it wasn’t. Read H.R. 2 and the senate “compromise”. It is not even remotely similar.

Glad the talking points have hatched; the silence was a little sad. I jest of course. This is an abject failure on the part of the GOP.
