The snakeskin leather suit? Ummm
I can’t decide if she wants her stylist tarred and feathered, or is giving the BRF the middle finger with her disastrous fashion choices. This can’t get worse.
Does she hate herself? Why intentionally look inappropriate and awful? Her weight gain can be hidden gracefully, by the way. Weird though because she has literally nothing to do all day and can afford glp-1 and personal trainer and chef.
"Snakeskin"? What? Nothing you've said makes sense. The only thing snakeskin she's wearing are her shoes - not the caramel leather suit. She looks perfectly appropriate.

Melania girl... what are you doing.
Unbelievable. I hope her luggage was lost. No other explanation. Definitely has gained substantial weight recently.
But to dress as the big banana (republic)?
Looks like etiquette dictates long sleeves and nigh neck. But no, she had to take a page out of Meghan Markle playbook and have her shoulders on full naked display.
This is really bad.
Oh, goodness. You must have been so appalled when Michelle Obama wore this to a white tie dinner w/Queen Elizabeth. Shoulders on "full naked display"!!! The horror. And don't say, "well at least she was wearing full length gloves!" Melania had long sleeves, so no need for any gloves at all. Not that they're even required anymore, as seen with the Spanish queen.

When I first glanced at this picture it seemed like the belt was skin tone.
I actually had that same reaction to the first photo from a greater distance. Like a second of "oh my god is she doing a bare midriff at Buckingham Palace???" before I realized it was a belt.
The weirdest thing is the dress looks just like the green dress Kate wore to the Earthshot Prize -https://www.harpersbazaar.com/uk/fashion/a42139785/kate-middleton-rents-green-dress-earthshot-prize/
Its almost an exact copy except the colors and the belt.
Exact? There's no cleavage with this dress. No contrasting belt. Also, it's for a black tie event. Last night was white tie.
It was also at an event in the US, for the Earthshot prize. So the very modern cut of the dress and the bright color made sense. It also got panned because the green shade was so bright, but relatively speaking, it was a lower stakes appearance for Kate than this state banquet was for Melania. Kate and William were promoting his popular environmental initiative and maybe raising their US profile a bit. Whereas Melania and Donald are on a critical state visit to our closest ally in Europe during a time of great political turmoil including escalating Russian aggression in Europe and ton of political controversy at home. They need positive headlines and to communicate to Europe (and Russia) that the US is still with them in order to keep Putin from getting too bold, plus they should be using the opportunity to make Trump look presidential as a distraction from Epstein and the economy and the general $hitshow he is overseeing right now.
Instead Trump looked like Weekend at Bernie's Goes Union Jack! and Melania looked alternately like Carmen San Diego, a designer coat rack, and a ripe banana. Wut.

The BRF meet and greet seems very coordinated on the fashion front. Melania's hat matches Kate's dress. Trump and William are wearing extremely similar ties.

With Charles and Camilla, there's a blue theme going on. Melania's suit reads as very dark blue in this photo, Trump's is clearly navy, and then Chuck and Cam in lighter shades:

The hat though, OMG the hat. I think Melania just really loves this look, loves being able to shield half her face from cameras at an official event, and also probably likes trolling people. If her husband wasn't the worst thing to happen to American politics, I would find her amusing.
The hat is NOT good. And for some reason she kept it on inside, even though all of the royal ladies took theirs off. It looks even more ridiculous indoors.

Just curious... Are women expected to take their hats off indoors in the UK? Is there any royal protocol about when they can keep them on or need to remove them?
That's a good question. The Queen did wear hats indoors but I believe they all always take theirs off for these events... Maybe it's the type of hat or type of event?
My mom grew up back in the day when women were expected to wear hats at outdoor events. Famously, Jackie Kennedy invented the pillbox hat because she did not like hats and didn't want to wreck her hair, so asked for a smaller hat. Because in the 50s, it was not "proper" for a woman to go out without a hat on. (My mom's college required hat and gloves if you were going to be off campus in town in 1952 and they would get demerits if they forgot them.) I think the British protocol is just hold-over from that time (like their hosery rules). Maybe Kate will dump it when it's her turn to set such rules -- I don't think she's a huge hat fan.
In short -- it is weird to keep the hat on indoors, and I don't think anyone does that.
Weird? Do you not know anyone — anyone at all — who still wears hats to church? (Men take theirs off, women keep theirs on).

Ye gods, how did this getup escape discussion on this thread? This is crazy town. It’s the ultimate coat indoors situation. And why were they all together in 2024?
Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:I kind of like the colors but I think it looks like she’s going to an Easter party
It's a different color combo for sure. But I like that. It would be so easy to do yellow with a neutral belt, but I like that it's a color combo you don't see a lot. Makes it look fresh.
But with the green earrings?
Plus, it's such a YELLOW yellow. Like highway sign yellow. Like McDonald's yellow.
I've never cared for how she looks when she wears belts/waists high up on her torso. I think it makes her look more poochy. In the menswear suit she wore to the Capitol she looked much much thinner. I think a lower waistline is better for her.
Anonymous wrote:Nothing wrong with off the shoulder dresses at the state banquets. If you pull up photos from past ones, there are plenty of examples of women wearing them as well as strapless. Showing a bit of cleavage is not verboten either as long as it is not extremely obvious.

Wow, ahead in flats. I wonder if there was a specific instruction that heels would not work for this outing. It’s a cute outfit although I’m sure someone will complain about white after Labor Day.
