With all the Valor parent coach drama, anyone who gets a Valor offer needs to clarify in writing that their coach won't be coaching their own child on the team before you accept the offer.

He's middle aged and was an assistant college soccer coach ten years ago at some podunk college and now he wants to coach Valor's third (rec level) U13 team.

Is he a parent coach? That's the vibe.

Are the 2nd and 3rd coaches new to Valor?

it seems like the 3rd dude is completely new to the concept of coaching

Every coach is new to coaching at some point in their lives.

That's true. But, Valor charges the same price regardless of level, and for Valor prices, its reasonable for parents to expect some experience.

The amount of coaching turnover on the lower level teams is really something.

Andrew doesn't have safe sport or any coaching licenses which means he is likely brand new to coaching

Professionalism is not a quality that matters to Valor when it comes to hiring coaches. This becomes abundantly clear if you spend more than a year with the club and observe what’s going on and talk to people with kids in other age groups. At best you might deal with a parent coach situation. At worst, your kid will be subjected to verbal abuse. It’s not all the coaches, but there are enough of them scattered throughout the club that it’s not somewhere I would keep my kids long-term.

If the daughter gets pulled up to the first team, even just to guest play, that’s going to raise some eyebrows among the second team parents. Even if it’s warranted based on performance, it may be hard for parents to feel like those decisions are being made objectively. Why wouldn’t Valor put the coach at an age group where his daughter doesn’t play? There are plenty of coaches who are parents of players at the club. It’s a pretty simple solution to just put the coach at an age group above or below the one their kid plays in.

He's been the first team coach all season, I don't think his daughter has ever been called up to guest, others have. The 2nd team assistant coach has a daughter on the team. This also hasn't been an issue because the head coach is there to make decisions and having another coach around is more positive than only having one coach. The experience this year has not indicated much bias. While yes the possibility exists these two coaches have been able to navigate this while also being able to be around to see their own kids play. And no I'm not a rah rah yay Valor parent i have other concerns with how things played out this year and this was not one of them. I'm just trying to provide what our experience has been.
While this doesnt happen with any club IMHO, conflicts of kids and coaches should be shared with parents directly and upfront if it cannot be avoided in the first place. If my teacher's kid or his/ her assistant has a kid in my child's class, then I would be pissed if I was not informed of this potential conflict upfront. If I was informed upfront (at time of tryouts or offer acceptance), then that is fine as I at least have the ability to choose to go elsewhere. I am typically seeing coach/ child relationship on teams related to coaches who came in through via rec and want to continue coaching their kid. Valor has a tendency to hire coaches out of rec which is why it is more prevalent with this club.
