The GOP, who have 5 votes in the Senate, could only muster 46 votes. So no, this is not on the dems.

Trump is responsible for this shutdown and the general dysfunction of the government.

First, he impulsively rescinded DACA, leaving nearly a million young people with a looming 6 months deadline which has catastrophic consequences for their lives.

Then, he said he would sign whatever immigration bill was brought to his desk and he would take the heat on it.

Next, he agreed to meet with Durbin and Graham to review the bipartisan bill. Quickly his racist staff members & select Congressmen (Miller & Kelly, Cotton & Perdue) leapt into action to stir up Trump to the point of calling Africa, El Salvador and Haiti "shithole countries" in a meeting called within hours of the positive phone call.

Heavy criticism, lies and repercussions followed and all credibility was lost for the GOP and Trump (not that he had any).

McConnell then throws up his hands and waits for Trump to indicate what he will sign.

Trump, preoccupied with thought of the party & golf he is forgoing at Mar a Lago, cannot decide what to do and so we are shutting down the government.

It is appalling that the Democrats threw DACA into this funding bill. They are so enamored with illegal immigrants that they would rather harm the livelihoods of 1 million American taxpayers in favor of people who enter this country illegally.

Also, what happens to the elderly dependent on social security? Does direct deposit of the checks continue? I sure hope the Dems are not putting the interests of illegals ahead of poor, elderly Americans. Even one skipped month means these old people might not eat.

I agree with everything you said, but Democrats have never stooped to this level. Shutting down the government is something Republicans have been hellbent on doing for the last 10 years. Hell, many of them campaigned on doing what they just did.

Please find some example of Democrats resorting to "tricks" and you'll also find it's what they're reduced to in order to do what they're SUPPOSED to do - which is keep the government running, appoint competent people to run it, and try to make this country a halfway decent place to exist.

But the GOP on the hill told the President to make a deal.

So did Kelly call this or did the GOP say that the agreed to framework was no good?

Is Trump even acting as President now at all? Of it Kelly calling the shots?

I love the folks who are claiming DACA is about the rule of law. You know what else is about the rule of law?

-no nepotism in the White House,
-following the emoluments clause,
-following ethics rules
-the rule of law that says your election campaign cannot receive items of value from foreign sources
-the law that says your election campaign cannot use stolen information
-the rule of law that says you cannot interfere with an investigation by manipulating evidence of coercing witnesses.

Those laws should be followed and prosecuted, or are they being selective?
