Really, we refused to ask anyone their opinion because we knew that we simply were not on the same page in so many ways, including names. Refusing to share your choices is weird, because you are not actually asking their opinion, so what does it matter. "I'm not telling, because I'm in first grade and not mature enough to have children, blah, blah, blah....." But I digress.
I can see trying too hard with "simple" names. Unless you want a "simple" kid.

all three very nice names.
beautiful names - but one out of every three girls I meet have these names...so very common now.
Agree. There are so many beautiful names that are less common (without being "out there"). Why not choose one of those?

Especially those with the "uh, my name choice is so traditional it can't possibly be trendy...." WRONG. WRONG. WRONG. If push comes to shove, I would pick an Aidan over Jack any day. No really, any day. Jack is just trying too hard. Examples, of course.

then there's a whole long list of slightly less common, yet, well-used names trying hard to capture that distinguishing 'last name as first name' thing. Hate all of those too. Turner, Hudson, Emery, Emerson, Carson, Tucker, Truman, Wilson and on and on and on and on. I feel for ya out there in South Riding.
My coworker calls these Pottery Barn names.
Your co-worker is right. I noticed that while having a conversation about furniture with a friend, and my DH walked by and said "whose kids are you talking about?" Snicker.
At the playground today, a man was shouting for his kids..."Parker! Peyton! Blaine! Time to go!." Gag. I guess they ran out of "P"s when they got to Blayne. Or his wife lurved "Pretty in Pink".
