I don't know what's going on here.
I think they had to release him within a certain amount of time, unless they were charging him. They may not yet have enough evidence to charge him with everything they what to charge him with.
They can certainly keep him under surveillance and make sure he is no danger to the community while they gather more evidence.
He does have ties to Brown. His linked in profile mentions he was enrolled in coursework at Brown this semester.

I attended online classes at UWM after graduating high school due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. I joined the army afterwards and resumed taking full time college classes here online in fall 2022 up until spring 2023. I transferred to Brown University after leaving service to attend in the Fall 2025 semester."
While it might not be true, he also apparently told a friend he was enrolled at Brown U and that he had to move out of his dowrm because it was flooded so he was living in a hotel.
He was trained as a sniper in the army. He had firearms in his hotel. I assume that the bullets didn't match what was used in the shooting. so they maybe had weak evidence to connect him to the murders and therefore had to release him for the moment.
But this guy is suspicious as hell.
They wouldn't release him if they still thought he did it, come on. They have 24 to 72 hours to charge someone after detaining them, depending on state, circumstances etc
Any person arrested without a warrant under the provisions of §§ 12-2-3 — 12-2-5 may be detained until a complaint can be made against him or her, and he or she is taken upon a warrant issued upon the complaint; provided, that arrest and detention without a warrant shall not continue longer than the space of six (6) hours when the arrest is made between the hours of four o’clock (4:00) in the morning and eight o’clock (8:00) in the evening, and when made at any other hours the person arrested shall not be so detained after ten o’clock (10:00) in the morning of the following day.

Why is he suspicious? The above doesn't sound suspicious.
It really doesn't add up.
The cops supposedly found him because his phone was located in the neighborhood/block during the time of the attack. They say he was not a registered student at Brown, yet his linked in profile and his friend say he was enrolled in the college. He has guns, in a nearby hotel. People in Rhode Island don't have guns. That in itself it is really weird. RI has one of the lowest rates of gun owndership in the US. He's from Wisconsin. What the heck is he doing in Providence, if he isn't enrolled at Brown? What was his phone doing on College Hill, outside the engineering building? That's not a tourist spot.
Yes, they released him, but that doesn't mean they won't be charging him later, if they get more evidence. I think he's the guy.

Can they confiscate his fkkkg gun?? Even if he’s not the guy?!! wtf is he doing in Providence with a Glock w/ laser attachment in some hotel room in Providence ?
It's not illegal to travel from state to state with a handgun you legally own, depending on how it's stored and the concealed carry laws in each state.
Well this guy obviously needs to be on a watch list. Even if he’s not this shooter- he’s got a mental health history and a Glock and hand gun
