Democrats do not have leverage in a shutdown, because they are the party of government.

They had leverage before when they controlled the Presidency, and were in charge of the visuals to be presented to the public. Send Park Service to kick people out of parks and every tourist area, threaten social security, etc.

Now Trump will be firing Democrats.

What this means is that over 92% of federal employees will be fired if the shutdown lasts longer than 60 days.

Tell me, what would you think if a new CEO took over your own company and a few months in fired 92% of everyone there, with minimal regard to what the function of the fired people actually was? How do you think that company would survive? It wouldn't. You'd lose most of your technical expertise, organizational and institutional knowledge and history, relationships with customers and other organizations, everything would collapse and the company would implode. Anyone who thinks it would be a "good thing" is completely clueless about how things work.

Who are you people??? This is not going to happen???

If it's not going to happen then why are OMB, OPM, and agencies all preparing for it? Again, if the government shuts down that clock will start ticking, and 60 days later 92+ percent of the federal workforce will be gone, unless something changes.

Who are you people who are absolutely certain it won't happen? You're going to have to be a White House or Senate Staffer with inside knowledge to be making a declaration like that with any certainty.

You know the longest shutdown so far is 35 days?

Do you have a point?

This is Trump v2, in bigger, longer, and uncut.

My point was that 60 days until firing is possible is a long time -- long enough for even people in the sticks to get annoyed with that certain services are unavailable.
Why 60 days?

Maybe Americans need to come together for a general strike.

We can even get Americans en masse to agree to hold the party in charge of both houses of Congress and the White House responsible for keeping their government open.

To be clear, I think a general strike would be a great tactic. I just don't see it happening in this brain dead, do-nothing, me me me environment.

Sigh....agree. People better wake up and quick.

I think many people are aware, but what to do about it and whatever can be done, how to organize it? That’s the question.

Demand that Congress kick him to the curb and lock the building.

So keep emailing and calling my senators and representatives. Ok. I can’t say I’m hopeful though.

Just found out my fee funded agency has to report tomorrow, but unlike all previous shut downs, will not be paid until a funding bill is passed. Even though the handbook says no disruptions to funding our agency are expected. Make it make sense...

Dems have been preparing since November 2024. Trump will fire only democrats? Their cases will be handled by the judiciary operating under the Anti-Deficiency Act. Judges continue to receive their compensation under the Constitution and will continue to work regardless of a shutdown. Other staff who are necessary to the judges’ work, such as their support and court staff, as well as staff who are needed to work on emergencies regarding the safety of human life or the protection of property. They would qualify as “excepted” under the courts’ shutdown planning documents drafted in alignment with the Anti-Deficiency Act.

If it lasts 60 days there won't be any compensation and most of the government will cease to exist.

Odd that it's Fa, not Antifa, bringing us anarchy.

It's autocracy not anarchy.

The military and the new domestic brownshirt army are still funded.

The military is not funded. We just keep working because we are essential, but we do not have a budget and do not get paid unless Congress pays us later.

How will all the generals and admirals get back to their homes?

They will buy a plane ticket and be reimbursed

GOP is defunding the police

Department of Homeland Security is cutting over $187 million or 86% of homeland security funding to New York State which will radically defund NYPD, FDNY, and NY State Police terrorism programs

Senate adjourns without keeping government open, meaning shutdown is certain.

Illegal to fire someone based on political affiliation.

A lot of things used to be illegal. It turns out that if none of the three branches care then it doesn't matter.

Dems need to realize the longer term fight that America is in right now.

Some of them do. Dems, and Reps, need to fight for everything. If they don't win now, there is always a later. But ignoring "small" illegalities, that does no one good.

It's like the camel's nose under the tent. First it's just a harmless little nose snuffling under the edge of the tent, but then suddenly the whole damn camel's in there. Stand up and do right, Republicans. Stop this shit.
