Lightridge averaged 10 goals a game last year and just beat battlefield in FN. are we sure they’re not contenders.

Schedules are coming out. Any interesting match ups?

Looks like the Spring Break tournament between VA and MD schools is taking place again. Here's what I found:

West Potomac vs South River & Broadneck
Robinson vs Broadneck & Severna Park
Battlefield vs Severna Park & South River

Yorktown averaged 10+ last year. The super soph is now a junior and he will increase his numbers over last year by a bunch.

Yorktown attack will average over 7 pts a game. More than enough to offset anyone else in VA. They'll score on 90% of possessions.

They averaged at least 12 goals a game last year, you're the 7 points/game of predictors?

quite a bold statement, but even if this were true defense wins games as we all know. If you're faceoff and defense are weak points it's going to be very hard to get the ball on offense

Calm down- Every team has holes to fill. They are a contender in class 6. Are they the best team? No, and Im sure many people will rank them appropriately.

Class 4/5/6 is not a good judge of how good a team is anyway, only speaks to a school size and not quality of the lacrosse.

Im not doing your homework, go back and read yourself where the holes are.

As far as I remember yorktown was very weak on the defensive end(emphasis on the goalie), and to say they are not a possible contender for anything is not egregious to say

Anonymous wrote:They went 7-0 in VEL and just beat Yorktown in Fierce Nation. By everyone on this forums logic they must be very good or maybe offseason lacrosse results shouldn’t be taken too seriously.

I hate to bash a team like Lightridge. They do have some good players and are an up and coming team.
However:
The 7-0 in VEL was in the "C" league against the likes of:
Dominion/ Heritage - a combined team; made up of two class 4's that are not that good to being with
Potomac Falls - a bottom class 5 team and have been for many years, traditionally finish last in the Loudoun Class 5 division
TrinityChristian/ Tho Jefferson- again a combined team; of two also ran programs
Fairfax - who lost by 10 to a good CLASS 4 team last year
McLean/ Alexandria combined team who many are predicting to be very down this year

They beat a Yorktown team that has a ton of hype, but also has serious holes in an off season winter league while missing players.

The question was- "Are they a contender?" I assume that this is for a state title in Class 5. The answer is a no
They need to get past Riverside, Stone Bridge in their own division. No happening this year.
They may finish between 3-5 with Freedom, Briar and them and could even fall to 6 with Champe in there too.
They will have a good season, yes, but secure a top two spot to region to make the state tournament and be a "contender", no.

As for the other poster, yes, the same teams are generally good year to year its a product of the system. Begin to beat those perennial teams in the regular season or even be close, win district playoff games and then region games and make it to the state tournament and you give yourself a shot. Lightridge has done none of that at this point.
