LOL, no. He ran because his feelings were hurt, and he’s vindictive and petty. Obama (a Black man Trump hated so much he created Birtherism) made fun of him. Which sealed the deal that he’d run.
But note that he didn’t run against Obama because he was scared of losing to the Black guy.

I'm a Dem but yeah, Dems have zero humor. As people go, totally uptight and petty in terms of execution. I've worked for both parties and while I subscribe to Dem platform, quite honestly, it was always easier and happier working for Reps. They are just more relaxed as human beings. I find Trump and his clan utterly disgusting but just saying in general, having experience with both political parties, the Dems can be quite a nightmare as people. I don't really have an explanation but Dems are def more uptight!
