OMWI offices at all the FIRREA agencies are being effectively shut down, with only the statutorily required Executive Director role remaining. They’ve made it clear that the examination divisions won’t be subject to RIFs, though they have consolidated those divisions from four down to two, effective June 2. That consolidation will likely result in many reassignments, as they’ve explicitly ruled out reductions in force in those units.

To the other poster I don't have a source for no RIFs; however they are dismantling an office and rather than RIFing those people like other agencies have done they are reassigning them. Obviously there are never any guarantees but that practice strongly suggests they don't intend to RIF.

I also dont know the target but clearly with a hiring freeze + natural attrition they are intending to shrink at least a little further. By the way that may not be PAs call, could be a DOGE call.

I think so. "DEI" stuff. Not totally gone because required by statute but shrinking to 1 or 2 people.

Why the lack of transparency? If they REALLY wanted to increase attrition, they’d disclose the options that they’re considering, the offices possibly on the chopping block, and the staffing levels that they’re targeting. Like many agencies have done.

Saying nothing just causes people to dig in and wait. Makes no sense.

Which office is being dismantled? FWIW I assumed that they would offer some combination of VERA/VSIP again while they reassign/reorg people, to give them an out if they don’t like the changes.

Where do they “want to be”??? I keep hearing about this secret staffing target that “they” supposedly had since Feb., but nobody ever bothers to say what it is. Why is it such a big secret?

First, the excuse was that it was too early to disclose. Then the excuse was that they had to wait for PA to arrive. Then the excuse was that the stars were not quite aligned. What’s the excuse now?

I would question the credibility of any post or source that opines on RIFs (or lack therof) but refuses to disclose the staffing target.

I read that post. I took it more as the poster was upset she went into the office and dealt with a commute to sit all alone to work. It IS depressing. I don’t think I’d cry or post on Reddit, but I understand the emotions.

I just saw someone post on the fednews subreddit that they are on their first RTO day and they were *sobbing* at their desk because people didn’t acknowledge them or say hi or something. Someone else posted suicide hotline for fed employees. Like…are fed workers ok? I have never worked for the government but are they always this hysterical?

I am very disappointed that he didn’t take questions. Did anyone ask him anything afterwards.
