A friend and their spouse (biracial couple from the UK) live in Porto, Portugal. They are super happy there.

I feel like Spain, Portugal even the UK i better than here right now. At minimum, their government isn't anti-vax and anti-science. They actually care about their people's health and well being.

I met some women from Portugal working in France. They have a lot of resentment towards the American expat developments in Portugal. These neighborhoods get electric and safe water. In their home villages electricity is intermittent and they have to use bottled water to brush their teeth.

I just spent 3 weeks in the UK. The poor dental care is shocking. I was surprised at the number of adults in their low 40's missing teeth and working. In the US we have affordable dentures. Americans will work a second job or pay on credit card to get dentures.

Yes, agree that Brits need to care more about their dental care. My Brit spouse gets a checkup every year. But, IMO that's a cultural issue. They aren't as obsessed with perfect white teeth like we are here. But, I disagree. We don't have affordable dentures. It's only affordable if you have good insurance. Medical costs here are crazy. That's why we have so much medical bankruptcies which the UK doesn't.

Also, even though Americans are more obsessed with our teeth, it doesn't translate into living longer or better quality of life. The US life expectancy is lower than the UK's.

And yea, I'm sure there are people who resent expat Americans, but my friends are loving it there. They've been there for 5+ years. But, their nationalist parties don't control the PM office unlike this country.

Dental hygiene is tied to life expectancy. Also, good Dental hygiene is judged on job interviews.
