TBH, DC deserves to lose the Wizards and Caps. Chinatown has become terrifying and between the violent, criminal teens on the loose and the abuse of marijuana in that area, I'm not surprised to see the Wizards and Caps go. It's time for DC leadership to wake up and get to work. The status quo of ignoring problems is not working.
All of this. It's not just pot, it's PCP laced pot, crack and people sitting on the sidewalk in broad daylight shooting up. There is a large and historic open air drug market. It's grim and not at all family friendly.
As Matt Y said today, Bowser is the best of the lot re: crime and business and NONE of this is good.
The question about the potential loss in revenue was a good one. She claimed $25M directly and a lot more indirectly. I suspect more.

He wrote the book—literally—on how bad DC got in the 80s.

And I hate it for VA. Terrible location.
+2 Same. It will be terrible for downtown DC. I’m grew up in the area and definitely remember what it was like around Gallery Place before the arena. It is very much one of the major developments that sparked the city’s revitalization.
Not to worry. Bowser is on it. She's forming a Gallery Pl task force.
They should tax commuters. /s

Not sure how DC can get any of that going here. We have crime, truancy and a growing segment of the population that will always be dependent on the taxpayer. How did so much progress get lost so quickly?
But at least DC is welcoming, diverse, inclusive and has an urban vibe. The billionaire teams can enjoy their new home in the boring white suburbs.

They re-route traffic at LGA for the US Open, which is farther than this is to DCA.
