Is this some kind of slang for being physically abusive?
“Putting hands on” and keeping someone’s name “out your mouth” are two expressions I’ve only seen on Lipstick Alley.
A friend of mine uses the “put hands on” term. It’s urban slang (FWIW she grew up in a MD working class suburb). Honestly I think it makes “beat me up” or “hit me” sound less violent — sort of like ‘passed away’ softens ‘died.’ So I really don’t like the phrase.

As PP already said, she'd already been beaten in the hotel room and was trying to escape. But did you see the force that he used when he threw her on the ground? She probably had the wind knocked out of her or was stunned, or both. You don't just knocked to the ground like that, and then kicked, and are ready to fight. You're hurt. You're stunned. You're scared. What is the matter with you?

Only when Will Smith said it at the Oscars or else online. Not among people I know.

Exactly! I guess some people really do live under a rock or aren't exposed much outside of their own communities.Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Have you really never heard someone say, "Keep my name out of your mouth?" Will Smith said that at the Oscars. “Keep my wife’s name out your mouth” after he slapped Chris Rock.

I'm a survivor of severe physical domestic abuse. Natural reaction is to cover your head.

That’s what’s more heartbreaking-she didn’t fight back - she curled into a ball to make herself as small as possible and protect her softer areas. A clear sign that she’s been abused many many times by him.
I was beaten , broken nose as a child by my father. I am 66 and still curl up to protect myself when I am scared.
I am sorry, you deserved to be loved and protected by your father.
